I'm very impressed with the RTTY mode in this little bugger. It is doing a
good job of decoding signals in the JART WW RTTY contest, and with it's 10 watts into my trap vertical stations in Poland, Finland, and Ukraine are reading it fairly well. Using the CW memories to hold the exchange makes it easy, but using a paddle works well too! Well done Elecraft! BTW, 10m is open this AM into Eastern Europe! I've never been into any mode other than CW, but this morning I tried
RTTY and PSK31 on the KX3 for the first time. I too was very impressed. Very well implemented on the KX3 and I particularly like being able to use the CW paddle for input. I don't like being tied to the computer for this work (though I understand that has much to offer). I'm looking forward to doing more with this mode (but CW will always be #1! :) --Andrew, NV1B .. I did not monitor PA temps, but the exchanges for the contest are pretty
short, so not much of a stress. Thanks for reminding me of that, I now recall Wayne suggesting 5W max for continuous duty modes like RTTY and PSK. Anyone can send 50 WPM using the KX3's internal RTTY and PSK31 modes
(FSK-D and PSK-D). Just program up to six message buffers for contest exchanges and use those instead of the key. 73, Wayne N6KR On Oct 20, 2012, at 9:26 AM, Gerald Manthey wrote: > I am so looking forward to getting my fist speed up so that I can > send psk > and Rtty with thr key. > On Oct 20, 2012 11:24 AM, "Andrew Moore" <[hidden email]> > wrote: > >> I've never been into any mode other than CW, but this morning I tried >> RTTY and PSK31 on the KX3 for the first time. >> >> I too was very impressed. I'm new at RTTY/PSK31 so forgive me for the FAQ. but I assume that if
I send at high speed on the paddles (or via the message buffers), the KX3 just buffers the characters and the modes send it out at 45 or 31 baud. Is that correct? --Andrew, NV1B .. Each individual character will be sent at the correct baud rate no
matter what the CW speed. But if you use the message buffers, characters are guaranteed to be sent out back to back, as if you were sending a brag tape from a computer application. (I.e., 60 WPM for RTTY.) This means you can send info quickly via message buffers, but keep the keyer speed set to a comfortable level in case you need to send that way.
