[KX3] Slightly OT: CrankIR

Lynn W. Taylor, WB6UUT
Noticed the ads in QST for the CrankIR antenna -- especially the photo
with a KX3 in it.

Anyone have any comments?

As an apartment dweller, I'm looking for something cool and portable.

Thanks -- Lynn

Hi Lynn,

You'll probably want to join the SteppIR Yahoo Group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SteppIR/

I'm on the SteppIR site every day and I haven't seen any recent reports on the CrankIR. My guess is that they haven't yet begun shipping.

There's a photo of N9ADG using a CrankIR with what looks to be a KX3 on the SteppIR site here:
http://www.steppir.com/crankir-vertical-and-dipole
Brian was probably a beta tester. According to the top two photo captions he took the CrankIR to Hawaii. You could drop him a line to get his impressions.

Mike K2MK

For the life of me, I can't figure out their order page -- I have no idea
what is included and what is an option.  Also it is impossible to tell from
photographs what configuration they are running.  SteppIR might make great
stuff, but their literature leaves a LOT to be desired.

If anyone actually owns one of these and can explain how it goes together
and what options are good to have, I'd love to hear from them.

Lynn, it looked interesting to me when I saw it at IDXC/Visalia, at
which time no price/availability had been stated.
At Dayton, it attracted a lot of attention.  I'd have to look through
the literature that I brought home, but I have a flyer with prices.  Not
sure about availability.

The web site CrankIR info page says:

"Estimated ship date of the first orders is not yet determined but looks to
> be 8-10 weeks from order date as we begin the manufacturing process.  We
> believe that lead times will rapidly diminish once production is in motion."

When you go to submit an order, you see this as well:

*I understand that freight is not included in pricing
> *I understand that shipment of this item is estimated to be 09/2013
> *I understand that my credit card will be charged 1-2 weeks prior to
> shipping and that I will be notified by email
