HI All
I have a KX3, #262. I have an issue and I wonder if others have found the same, It's in relation to the ENCODER. There is a distinct noise as you turn the tuning knob and it is seems to be frequency sensitive. On the Bands from 1.8 to 10MHz there is No noise. On the Bands from 14 to 21MHz there is Light " rasping " noise. On the Bands 24MHz and 28MHz the noise Doubles to Medium. On the 50MHZ the rasping noise is double that on 28MHz and is Very annoying. The encoder I have in my KX3 is the one which is not soldered to the PC Board. Anyone else have these symptoms? Try enabling VFO NR in the menu. You'll have to unlock to do this.
Dial up the VFO NR menu entry, then hold the KHZ key down until the lock icon disappears. Use VFO to change the setting from OFF to ON. Exit the menu. matt W6NIA On Tue, 23 Oct 2012 12:06:04 +1000, you wrote: >HI All > >I have a KX3, #262. > >I have an issue and I wonder if others have found the same, It's in relation >to the ENCODER. > > > >There is a distinct noise as you turn the tuning knob and it is seems to be >frequency sensitive. > > > >The encoder I have in my KX3 is the one which is not soldered to the PC >Board. > >Anyone else have these symptoms? > > > >David, > >VK4DH > > > > > >______________________________________________________________ >Elecraft mailing list >Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft >Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm >Post: mailto:[hidden email] > >This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net >Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Yes, everyone has these symptoms. You can help the situation some by turning on the VFO NR in the menu. You have to unlock the menu by holding the rate button for 3 seconds until it says "Unlocked". This has to be done by band.

Hi David,
I justed received my KX-3 a few days ago. I also noticed here the same noice problem with the encoder. The noice during VFO tuning is rather heavy on 18, 24 & 28 MHz, on the lower bands no problem. Anyway very nice radio... 73, Philip, ON6SAS |
