Hi K2 members..
Due the years of production of the K2 rig and witch I folow a lot of time Is there is nobody who had made the attention to change the LCD display readout into a LED display reading ?? Personally I think the readebillity of a LED display (by eaxmple for the K2 in geen ) looks even mutch more professional with the K2 witch this transceiver kit already is !! Of course my questin is are there some idees around from past or is there maby somebody who have already modified his K2 with a LED display in place of a LCD display ? I do not have mutch experience around but I am looking following days to order a full K2 kit and I like to now if sutch idee or arrangement is possible behind the K2 structure ? I prefer like the old Yeasu FT101ZD a red or green LED display, but of course this is a personal touch and is for every body different!! By reading some mechanical docs around elecraft K2 I think it must be possible to arrange some mechanical modifications in place of the room where the LCD plate exists now,by example with mini 7 segment displays who exists. I look forward about some idees of some members who already have been created around, and like to see how something could be fixed. If not I have to live with that old LCD idee of the K2 hi.. Don't mis understood the whole Elecraft K2 is a outstanding and qualified homebrew project of the top,but its only a possible suggestion. I do a lot of homebrew and nobodys tell that we could not or may give a good project a personal touch,if possible of course ? Thanks to all for possible replys around.. Kindly regards Jean ON4AEF. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hello Jean -
The problem with an LED display is that it takes much more current than an LCD. When operating portable from batteries the total current is an important factor. With the LCD display in the K2 there is an option to turn off the backlight to reduce the current even more. The early calculators used an LED display but they ran the batteries down very quickly which is why they almost all now use LCD. Do order a K2, Jean. It is an excellent rig and you will find the LCD display very clear indeed. You will have much fun building it. 73 de David G4DMP In a recent message, Behiels JeanPierre <[hidden email]> writes >Due the years of production of the K2 rig and witch I folow a lot of time >Is there is nobody who had made the attention to change the LCD display >readout into a LED display reading ?? -- + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + | David M Pratt, Kippax, Leeds. | | Website: http://www.g4dmp.co.uk | + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

For a similar effect you may like the looks of using polarizing film. It
reverses the display colors. Instead of black numbers on a orange background, it will give you orange numbers on a black background. The color will depend on the color of your display. Many fine examples and information on this procedure can be found in the Yahoo groups Icom R75 group. You will need to join the group to view the files section. Really neat looking . Jean,
The LCD on the K2 is a custom design, and could only be changed by special order, which may cost more than the K2 itself. It is not a pixel type display. The LCD backlight might be found in a different color (not available from Elecraft). The LCD itself is translucent and does not have a specific color to it (unless you consider shades of gray to be color. To change it to an LED would require creating an LED equivalent of the current LCD display, and I believe that would also be quite a costly effort. 73, Don W3FPR On 5/8/2013 4:14 AM, Behiels JeanPierre wrote: > Hi K2 members.. > > Due the years of production of the K2 rig and witch I folow a lot of time > Is there is nobody who had made the attention to change the LCD display readout into a LED display reading ?? > Personally I think the readebillity of a LED display (by eaxmple for the K2 in geen ) looks even mutch more professional with the K2 witch this > transceiver kit already is !! > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Your are pretty much stuck with the factory display. Take a look at what
they do in the r75 group. It is a really neat look. Probably as close to a led display as you can get. It involves taking a piece of polarizing film and positioning it over the display until the numbers become clearly in focus. The tricky part is removing the film on the original display and replacing it with the polarizing film in the exact position that the display became clear. The group has all of this outlined in the files. Not for the faint of heart, but well worth the effort if you like the look. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
