Line out

Is there any harm done using a mono to stereo adapter in the line out jack in order to get the signal (no subreceiver installed) in both channels? This will presumably short-circuit the right channel output on the jack. I am not using any any of the pseudo-stereo modes.

I doubt anything will be harmed, but putting a short circuit on an
output for extended periods is not encouraged!

Firmware currently in field test has a mode to drive both channels for
recoridng and other uses.

LINE OUT

STEREO, transformer-isolated; 600 ohm (nominal)

These outputs should be connected to your

computer's soundcard inputs. The left channel is

main receiver audio; the right channel is sub

receiver audio (if applicable). The outputs are post-

AGC but pre-AF-gain; use CONFIG:LIN OUT to

set the level.

I don't see anything about mono there.  Looks like they mean it only for
stereo connections.

not sure why you would want to?
The phones out provides for headsets and if you're thinking of putting
this into a PC, it will only need one channel. If you have the KRX3 as
well, then both channels.

I use my computer speakers the few times I don't use headphones and I want sound in both speakers.

Re: Line out

You misunderstand. The speakers I use are connected to line out on the PC. Line in on the PC are connected to line out on the K3. This is a very convenient setup and I don't need a separate speaker or speakers for the few times I use speakers for the radio.

I see. What about a software solution then, something that will pass
left channel audio to the right channel?

I hope this will work. I use Nabble and it is several hours behind real time. Yes, a software solution would be ideal and preferable. You'd think a mono/stereo switch would be part of the standard Windows volume contro, but I have never come across one. Maybe this can be done with a "virtual audio cable" that I have seen advertised.

can be done with Audacity on a mac, not sure if its available for PC.

And you can't be that far behind, about 14 mins latency to this point

It looks like I am not confusing the thread too badly. Audacity does have a Windows version and I will try it when I get home from work. How will I work that on live data? Audacity, I see is primarily a sound editor though it can capture live audio but can it alter the audio (mono->stereo) and bridge it to line out all in real time?

Re: Line out

ab2tc
Hi again,

It's been a little while. I had to investigate this in order to be completely comfortable with short circuiting the right channel with my mono to stereo adapter. The schematic for the KIO3 module shows a 604 ohm resistor in series with the output, so that puts this to rest. I could also verify this with an ohm-meter. The schematic is a little misleading (the pdf file) as it shows the same ground symbol on the secondary side of the transformers as on the primary side. I have verified with my ohm-meter that the line out is indeed completely floating with respect to the various grounds found on the transceiver (such as the coax connectors). This is good. I am assuming that some detail in the schematic has been lost in the ORCAD to PDF conversion. (If these schematics are not created by ORCAD, I'll eat my hat.)
