Long delay on RTTY sent with the paddle

Howard Sherer
When using my K3 to send RTTY via the keyer paddle there is a long delay
of about 4 sec after sending the last character for the receiver to
return while you continue to transmit additional spaces. Is their a menu
command to greatly shorten this 4 sec return to receive delay?

Howard,

No menu command, but send an "IM" character (no space, send as one
'letter') and transmission will stop as soon as that character is
recognized.

"..--" is easily remembered if you think of it as ".." followed by "--", or IM, for IMmediately terminate transmission.

We put the nominal delay at 4 seconds to give the operator time to think during longer transmissions. You can always use what Linguistics majors call a hesitation form (what we call "BT", or "-...-".

Re: Long delay on RTTY sent with the paddle

Oh...  I have done CW too long...  When I saw your "_..._", I had to
think about what it was...

As soon as I played it in my head, I knew...  I have noticed that of
late if folks ask me what a letter is, I have to think about it to give
them the actual dot/dash code, but if I hear it, it is just there...
