If one wanted to convert a conventional home incandescent desk lamp
for 12V operation, there are widely available 12V screw-in bulbs of "normal" 115V "home" size. They're sold by most RV and/or marine dealers -and- by WalMart in their RV section. 73! Hi,
While assembling my KRX3 I ran into a minor mechanical problem. Four of the "bumps" along the edge of the main KRX3 board, the one with all the filters, do not align correctly with the holes in the shielding - The holes which the "bumps" are supposed to "snap" into. Roughly the area where this occurs could be described as J92 to E2 to E3 to E5 on the circuit board. All other holes, bumps, standoffs etc. are O.K. and fit perfectly. I'm already in touch with Gary at K3 support. He says that I am the first to report the misalignment. Am I really the only one to have noticed this? vy 73 de toby -- DD5FZ (ex 4n6fz, dj7mgq, dg5mgq, dd5fz) K2 #85, K2/100 #3248, K3/100 #67 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Mine was perfect. Do you have it upside down or perhaps it was damaged in shipping?

Hi Toby,
We had a change in PCB vendors, and they slightly changed the location on some of the break-off points for the PCB handling frame on the KRX3 board (used during automated soldering etc. ) Fortunately this is not a major issue. The other remaining 'nubs' from the break off part of the pcb still align with the remaining alignment holes on the KRX3 case. The ones that do not are not a problem. 73, Eric WA6HHQ --- Toby Deinhardt wrote: > Hi, > > While assembling my KRX3 I ran into a minor mechanical problem. Eric, I've complained to support@elecraft about the poor quality of the PCB cutting as well. Not only do I have the same problem as Toby, but I also had to trim the LPA board so that it would fit. For the KRX3, What is your suggested solution -- push in the board by force, or remove the misaligned "nubs" ? (I went for a) given I had the board already half in, but the problem I have is a "hash" when turning the VFO knob, which could be shielding issues.... Hi Eric,
in other words, the "offending" "nubs" can be filed off without any disadvantages? Right now they are causing a mismatch between the top and bottom part of the shielding - a small gap (ca. 1mm-2mm) because the "bumps" are pushing against the side wall. vy 73 de toby Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft wrote: > Hi Toby, > > We had a change in PCB vendors, and they slightly changed the location > on some of the break-off points for the PCB handling frame on the KRX3 > board (used during automated soldering etc. ) Fortunately this is not a > major issue. Mario,
imho there is c) option - ask for replacement, this is out of spec if one is not able to put part for more then 500$ inside without tools/mods. But only 2 stations reported such problems here, maybe some bad-luck only? 73! Lexa, ok1dst K3/10 #727 Mario Lorenz napsal(a): > Am 06. Hi Mario,
Go ahead and file down the pcb numbs if needed. We are doing that on all current KRX3 boards we see that need it. 73, Eric Mario Lorenz wrote: Am 06. Absolutely. Go ahead and file them. It should be very easy to do. We
want the top and bottom covers on the KRX3 to mesh fully to give good shielding. 73, Eric Toby Deinhardt wrote: > Hi Eric, > > in other words, the "offending" "nubs" can be filed off without any > disadvantages?
