MARS Coverage?

David F. Reed
I seem to recall in previous posts that at some time, MARS coverage
(outside of Ham Bands) was going to be available.

I realize this probably has a low priority for most users, but Where in
the development chain is this?

If there is a desire for beta testers of this feature, I am expecting my
K3 soon and would be happy to help wring it out.

David,

Eric Swartz posted the following back on January 23rd ...

"We'll make it available on request to K3 owners. They can just email [EMAIL
PROTECTED] with their name, K3 s/n etc.

Its complete now, but I'm waiting for Brian, our s/w engineer on this
project, to rebuild it with the same installer we use for the K3 download
routine. He should have it ready this week. ..."

Hi David,

We already support this. Just email [hidden email]  (
K3support(at)elecraft.com ) with your name, K3 s/n and a request for the
MARS TX s/w and we'll send you the unlock software. This is a one time
run windows program that talks to the K3 via the serial port. This
unlocks TX everywhere except on the CB band.

Hi Eric & The List,

I know that this has been mentioned before, but nonetheless I think
the wish is worth mentioning again.

Just being able to activate the TX outside of the HAM Bands is nice
but rather limited. It would be nice if there was a tool allowing the
user to define which frequency ranges she/he wants/does not want for
RX as well as TX.

This could be useful for the contester who does not need the WARC
bands or the "expeditioner" going to a country where the 6m is very,
very illegal, etc.

All,

Don't forget that you'll also need the KBPF3 option to receive outside the HAM bands.

I've been using the K3 on MARS (including NCS duties) for ~5 months now.  Running ~600W with an SB-200.  All works great; can't say enough about the K3.
