If you are somewhat familiar with some text convert it to CW. It will assist you in copying since you will be familiar with the text. Believe me it can help. It does for me. https://lcwo.net/text2cw Use the link above 73 Jim W9VNE / VA3VNE Sent from my iPhone ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
I used ebook2cw to convert some of Onno's "Foundations of Amateur Radio"
podcast texts to CW. He heard about my doing it on the SKCC list, and not only did he join SKCC because of it, he followed my example and converted his entire backlist of podcasts to CW so anyone can use them. They're all fairly short, just a few minutes, and are just the right sort of text for getting some good practice. But the program itself that we used is really useful. I've converted a bunch of my favorite science fiction stories to CW, using public domain copies from Project Gutenberg. H. Beam Piper is my favorite for this purpose. I've got his novel "Little Fuzzy" in my Morserino to play back in CW form, and his novella "Omnilingual" in my phone. You do have to kind of fiddle with the text to clean out the stuff the program doesn't know, and make sure the code for the double quote is in the program's lookup table, since it has a lot of dialogue. Without quotes, the dialogue is very confusing! https://fkurz.net/ham/ebook2cw.html 73, Gwen, NG3P On Sat, Dec 28, 2019 at 2:08 PM Jim Danehy <[hidden email]> wrote: > > If you are somewhat familiar with some text convert it to CW. KY8D has already converted tons of text and sci-fi novels to .mp3 files at various speeds and some Koch method files for beginners. Very convenient for throwing on a MP3 player. The CW portion of his website is here:
https://starling.us/free/morse/ I also have found the practice mode on the YACK keyer which you can compile for an ATTINY85 chip to be very useful. You hear a 5 character pseudo callsign and have to send it back on the paddles. If you get it wrong you hear 8 dits and the call is repeated. If you get it right you hear ditdahdit and a new psuedorandom call. Great for practicing head copy, memory, (important for us old farts) and working on your fist all at the same time. The source code for the controller and an example schematic were uploaded to a repository. Subsequently, I decided to try my hand at producing a PC board. Rather than try some sort of printer-based method … Continue reading "JackYack Rev A" ________________________________ From: [hidden email] <[hidden email]> on behalf of Gwen Patton <[hidden email]> Sent: December 28, 2019 2:21:48 PM To: Jim Danehy Cc: Elecraft Mailing List Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Make your own CW practice material I used ebook2cw to convert some of Onno's "Foundations of Amateur Radio" podcast texts to CW. Unless you want to listen to it on an audio device there's no real reason to convert text.
I get text files from Project Gutenberg or convert kindle ebooks into txt files with Calibre, then run them with G4FON's excellent Koch software directly. That lets me change code speed, Farnsworth spacing, tone, add QRM, QSB, etc. I've read half a dozen novels that way with complete control. http://www.g4fon.net/ It's limited to 80 wpm max, but I try to live with that.
