Mid-Sept Price Increase Question

Dave AA7EE
I know that the earlier thread on this topic was closed and I have no wish to be the cause of further off-topic posts, but I had a question that wasn't answered by the earlier thread. My normal modus operandi with discussion groups is to wait, as I nearly always find that someone else asks the question that has been in my head. In this case, I waited, and no-one else asked.

This is a question for Eric and/or Wayne - once you have completed your review of the product line, will you be letting us know which products will have price increases, and what the new prices will be, before those increases take effect?

I am considering adding a few options to my K2 and this type of information would be very useful.

Did I ask a question I wasn't supposed to?  We were asked in the original post not to bother the sales staff by asking about this, so unless I get an answer on this list, I have no way to get an answer to my question.

Dave,

My suspicion is that no one on this list knows the answer right now, and
I also suspect the full answer is not known inside Elecraft just yet, so
it would be futile calling sales.

Re: Mid-Sept Price Increase Question

Dave AA7EE
Thank you for the reply Don - and thank you to those who answered off-list as well.

I'm wondering if we will get any more information before the price increases go into effect, or if they will simply take effect with no further warning.

I may purchase one or two of the K2 options I want before mid-September and take my chances with the rest, but I will refrain from further comment here, as I have no wish to make a nuisance of myself.

(speaking from experience)

If past is prologue, then the new prices will simply go into effect without
further announcement or elucidation. I suggest you decide what you want,
what it is worth to you, and whether you can afford it now or risk waiting.
It my experience, it is only worth worrying about if you were planning
-large- purchases. It can be informative to print out the current price list
from the order page for reference. In the past, the increases have been
relatively minor, and may go unnoticed unless one has a frame of reference.
Over the years, I have been quite pleased with the "discounts" I have
enjoyed by being an early adopter of Elecraft equipment and accessories.

We are fortunate in that Elecraft rewards the followers of the reflector by
"tipping their hand" regarding upcoming increases. We cannot, nor should we,
expect more than that.

Dave,

I would think that we will not know what will increase, but I suspect
that most everything will change.

Eric did everyone a favor by announcing the pending increase, so we
could order those Elecraft "goodies" that we want before the increase
(assuming the budget allows that).
So, if there are things you want and you can afford it, order now.

Prices are increasing rapidly on such things as butter and eggs and
fuel, so that makes an impact of other items (like electronic parts)
too.  Elecraft is not big enough to offer "loss leaders" like your local
grocery store.

The one thing that remains true - Elecraft's volume purchasing keeps the
cost of the products as low as possible.  If you want an exercise in the
relative economics of volume, take one of the mini-module kits and add
up the cost of the components purchased on a "onesey-twosey" basis from
DigiKey or Mouser and you will find the cost of Elecraft kits is a
bargain - you cannot homebrew that product for less - yes, I have done
that exercise.
By taking shortcuts and using alternate designs, yes, you can obtain the
same function (I an thinking of the N-Gen vs. the noise generator on the
www.n0ss.net (SK) website, but you cannot duplicate the Elecraft design
at less than the kit price.
