Mike Problems

I purchased the handheld mike from Elecraft. Works fine.
Purchased the Heil headset from Elecraft and when I plug that in the radio
goes to TRANSMIT and there is NO AUDIO.

Plugged an old 8 pin ICOM mike into the front. Same. Radio goes to Transmit,
no Audio.

Elecraft hand mike works fine.

Any thoughts anyone before the world ends?

You might need a Kenwood adapter for the Heil mike. The red one, not the blue one. 8 pin Foster connector usage varies by mfgr. See the Elecraft owners manual for a description of the K3's pin usage.

Per the manual shipped with the Heil set, the AD-1-K red adapter is
REQUIRED. The manual is only two pages and you might have misplaced
it. If so see

Bill. Turn on the bias using the "2" button while in the MIC SEL menu.

Bill,

The Icom mic will NOT work on the K3 unless you re-wire the mic plug.

The Heil headset needs either the Kenwood adapter (red) or it can be
plugged into the rear jacks.
If that Heil headset is for certain an Elecraft Proset-K2/3, then it
needs bias turned on because it has an electret element, just like the
Elecraft MH2. OTOH, if it is a regular Heil Proset it does not need bias.
One must be very specific about Heil microphones, there are many
configurations and several different kinds of elements.
