We must have over 1000 KX1's out there now and i am not seeing an increase in the number of Pedestrian Mobiles on the air. Mike VE3WMB is on frequently... but we need you too... The Fox logs are not showing any increase either... How about it KX1 guys.... Start walking..... Get an old CB whip, stick it in your pocket, hook it to your KX1, add a drag wire and get thee on the aire...peripatetically speaking, of course. i use a 10 foot whip on 20 meters and it works great ! i worked the Fox last night and a few other guys too... There is a new HFPackCW yahoogroup now ([hidden email]) for CW Pedestrian/Portable stations. Your email has inspired me! I will try to get out this weekend and see if I
can make any contacts. I do have an old CB antenna and will try to make it work. I use my KX1 mostly when I travel. Guess I need to change my thinking. Just to add my .02c...
I was on the air on my KX1 last night, with a 25' longwire and 16' radial. Didn't hear a thing from Washington State(re: the Fox). But I've been meaning to ask you to clarify how you put the antenna "in your pocket." What comes to mind is a whip that easily flops over while you're walking. Which pocket? How deep is it? How do you keep it secure? With Paul and Eric on KX1's this FD I don't stand a chance of
duplicating my success from last year -- I was #2 in the whole Pacific Division in category 1B1B! Here's how it happened: After helping out at PAArA's FD setting up PSK31 at the GOTA station, I came home, went out with my KX1, worked Stanford W6YX at 10:30PM, and went to bed. Imagine my surprise when the standings were published! I even out-scored RS0ISS! Nationally, though, I was dead last. 73, Leigh. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I would imagine crossing a street might be an adventure....one would have to account for the frequency, street width, and vehicle speed vectors. A real challenge in the age of red-light cameras.....no telling how the court would react to a trailing counterpoise defense. 73,Thom-k3hrn www.zerobeat.net Home of QRP Web Ring, Drakelist home page, Free Classified Ads for amateur radio, QRP IRC channel Elecraft Owners Database www.tlchost.net/ Web Hosting as low as 3.49/month _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have done HF pack dragging an 11 ft counterpoise made of light but very
flexible stranded and insulated wire, and it works great. Serious question Bill. If you are not walking along a clear surface like a
sidewalk or in a play park, but are on the 'Trail', do you not have problems with the counterpoise becoming tangled up in things, or do you only operate when 'on the trail' while standing still after 'throwing out' the counterpoise? Fascinating stuff this Pedestrian Mobile, but here the local cops would not try to understand. 73, Geoff GM4ESD ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Johnson" <[hidden email]> To: "'Thom R LaCosta'" <[hidden email]>; <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]> Sent: Wednesday, June 22, 2005 1:38 AM Subject: RE: [Elecraft] Re: More Pedestrian KX1's Needed > I have done HF pack dragging an 11 ft counterpoise made of light but very > flexible stranded and insulated wire, and it works great. > > Bill > > K9YEQ > > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
