Muting the K2

R March
I am using the K2 on CW with another XCVR and I need to mute, or vastly
reduce the system gain.  Does anyone know of a good scheme to do so?  AGC?
Mute function?  Thanks,  Bob

Hi, Bob-

I don't know if this applies to your situation, or if it is the best
available scheme really, but I use my K2 for RX when I am operating with my
Johnson Ranger TX.  The best way I have found to do this is to key both in
parallel, the K2 in TEST mode so that it mutes RX in synch with my keying.
This allows me to have side tone and QSK abilities, along with superb K2 RX
[using an antenna separate from the one on which the Ranger is transmitting,
of course].

Since the Ranger puts considerably more voltage across the key than does the
K2, I key the K2 directly and use a relay between my bug and the Ranger.
