After using the K3 a few weeks I am getting addicted to it, especially some
of the features. Here is my wish list for some minor improvements that I believe would make the K3 an even more fantastic radio; AFX Great feature! I am really start to like AFX when dxing on low bands, especially in CW. But why isn¹t this feature available on the line out jack? It should be an easy fix to make it available when using the radio remote or with an external audio circuit. Line in A ³MIX² mode mixing mic input and line input to be able to quickly put audio from the computer on air when in SSB mode. EQ Someone mentioned memories for EQ, a very good idea. I certainly want separate equalization settings for line in and mic inputs. LCD Backlight I would like to be able to turn the LCD backlight completely off. I know there is a daylight setting doing this, but then the LEDs lights up like a Christmas tree. I want a setting where all lights are completely OFF. RX width Please make the K3 remember filter choice and width by band. Sometimes it doesn¹t and I haven¹t figured out when and why. It is a little annoying having to ³NORM² filters when returning to a specific band and mode after swapping around. Those are a few minor changes I would like to see in my K3. I realize there might be more important tasks like the sub rx, so for now just regard those as suggestions for future improvements. 73 de Björn /SM0MDG _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Mic connector PTT selects the Foster (front) mic, rear panel PTT (RCA) selects the 1/8" mic input on the back and ACCESSORY connector PTT selects the Line Input (computer) audio. That avoids the issue of "mixing" audio and the "open mic" problem without the need to do external audio switching. > EQ Someone mentioned memories for EQ, a very good idea. I > certainly want separate equalization settings for line in and > mic inputs. "Per input," "per mode" and EQ memories are all needed. You don't want EQ on the line input for any of the data modes but if the line input is used for a soundcard with contest DVK software it should have the same EQ as the microphone. The ability to recall EQ settings based on operating type (rag chew, DX, Contest, etc.) is also important. 73, ... Sorry, there is only one PTT line inside the radio, these are all in parallel going to a single input on the MCU. The K3 is an equal opportunity PTTer; it does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion or signal origin. That's the biggest mistake that they've made on the K3 (at least so
far). 73, doug Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 14:32:37 -0700 From: Lyle Johnson <[hidden email]> > Better yet ... allow PTT to select the input. I do not think bandwidth per band/vfo does. I would not want to see the present behavior changed. It makes a lot of sense for SSTV operators.

On the IC7000- PTT on the rear mini-DIN does NOT enable mike audio. 73, doug _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The home of Elecraft resides in Gondor; often calling on the horsemen of

Actually there is a way to have a "smart" PTT. Use software PTT,
which can be assigned different definitions. The user or software author might be able to send a command that would mean "transmit and only use the rear audio input for this" If it were able to be overridden by the hard PTT, I think that would cover some uses. 73, doug _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
