Note: you may want to use another memory (e.g., 99) if you are using memories 0-9 for Band Sel. This macro may not work if you are using software that polls the K3 rapidly (e.g., Ham Radio Deluxe). 73, ... I can't load the firmware.
The loader (1.2.9.30) keeps responding: MCU firmware file hmcu0344.hex verified Sending firmware file hmcu0344.hex to MCU Send MCU firmware failed at load address x0800 MCU firmware load failed The display reads MCU LD and the red TX LED is blinking... Svend:
Try removing the power plug from the back of the K3, wait about a minute, and also close the K3 Utility. Remove all connections from the back of the radio except the DE-9 serial cable that is connected to the K3 Utility. Then start the K3 Utility and on the Port tab chose the COMM port that is connected to the K3. Leave the K3 Utility on the Port tab. It should start polling, you'll see little messages at the bottom status line. If the K3 Utility pops up a warning dialog (before you apply power to the K3) that says that it has found a K3 in boot load state, you probably have selected the wrong COM port; the COM port you have selected is connected to some other device that is sending back everything that is sent to it. Some laptop modems do that, some defective cables do that. Plug the K3's power plug back in and press the power button to turn the radio on. It should show MCU LD in the LCD screen and the back light will be dark and only then should you see a K3 Utility warning popup that a K3 has been found and its speed is 38,400 bps. Once you have that, go to the firmware tab and select "Send all Firmware to K3". See the K3 Utility Help text for the Port tab to see the expected sequence of screens. If the K3 Utility doesn't get responses from the K3 it will continue to poll. It could be a cable, the PC's USB port, or possibly the KIO3 in the K3. Usually it's a cable issue or an incorrect COM port choice. What I really think has happened is that the MCU loader is in some state that prevents it from responding. A full power off reset should correct the issue and it will go into the state where firmware can be loaded. There is a trouble shooting section in K3 Utility Help that contains every resolution we've ever heard of. Look for "Troubleshooting USB to Serial Adapters". There's also a description of what to expect in the Help page for the Ports tab. If you have continued problems, contact [hidden email]; they'll help isolate the issue with you. Thanks, Wayne. I think the squelched SCAN works ok in the macro
without the delays. It is the long-push SCAN that seems to have problems when there are no delays. Probably could use fewer semicolons but I just stuffed them in to make sure. 73, Drew AF2Z On Sat, 24 Oct 2009 15:08:47 -0700, you wrote: >Great macro idea, Drew. Wayne,
Would it be possible for you to add two more quick memories? They could be assigned to the SPOT and AFX keys perhaps... Then each keypad key will have a quick memory. 73, Drew AF2Z On Sat, 24 Oct 2009 17:11:00 -0700, you wrote: >Macros can only get to quick memories 0-9 and M1-4. > >Regarding pc applications: macros start after all buffered host >commands have run to completion, and we specifically discourage the >use of modal commands in macros, so interaction should be minimal, if >any. > >Wayne > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Wayne and Dick,
I did what you suggested, but: MCU firmware file hmcu0344.hex verified Sending firmware file hmcu0344.hex to MCU Retry 8 successful at address x000800, 68 fill bytes Send MCU firmware failed at load address x0840 MCU firmware load failed I've had a lot of these retry messages the last months. Now it is stuck apparently... Is my KUSB defective or is it a PC issue? Vy 73 de Svend, OZ7UV ____________________________________________________________ TDC Bredbånd for 0 kr. - Spar 695 kr. Cool! Does this mean I'll be able to write a 'switch macro' to change
the autonotch to turn on with a tap and turn off with a tap without having to go through manual notch? And use the hold to go to manual notch? That would make the autonotch really usable on SSB! 73 Hank K8DD

I'll need to add an autonotch on/off command for you to do this in a
single macro, Hank. I'll get it into the next revision (very easy to add, and I was planning one anyway). 73, Wayne N6KR On Oct 25, 2009, at 9:15 AM, .hank. wrote: > > Cool! Thanks Wayne for letting me try the new utility and FW 4.47. Installation went smoothly and the quick shift function is very convenient in the heat of the DX battle!
I added command SWT48; to turn the sub receiver on at the same time. Thanks Elecraft for this new great feature! Speaking of Sub "ON",
When I try to work a DXpedition or station working split (like UP 2Khz) I like to listen to the DX Station on Main Receiver VFO A and the pileup freq's on Sub Receiver VFO B. On the main receive I like my CW bandwidth narrow (starting at 500Hz). However, on the sub receiver I like the bandwidth wide so I can more easily hear which station is currently working the DX. I normally set Sub Receiver BW to 1.2 KHz. With this in mind, I modified the Split+2 Macro as follows: SWT13;SWT13;FT1;UPB5;RT0;XT0;SB1;BW0050;BW$0120; Description: CW DX split starting point: A>B twice, enter split, move VFO B up 2 KHz, RIT/XIT off, Sub Receiver ON, Set Main Receiver BW to 500Hz, Set Sub Receiver BW to 1.2 KHz. These macro functions improve the K3 "ease of use" factor significantly. What a fantastic addition to the K3. Depending on the interest of the particular operator, you can custom design many pertinent rig setting into a single key press. It keeps getting better and better ;-) Frank - W6NEK ----- Original Message ----- From: "W0FK" <[hidden email]> > > Thanks for the sub on addition, Richard. > > Lou, W0FK > > > Thanks Wayne for letting me try the new utility and FW 4.47. Glad you like it, Lou!
I programmed SWT13;SWT13;FT1;UPB5;RT0;XT0;SWT48; as SPLIT+2 on PF1 and: FR0;SWT48; as SPL OFF on PF2 for a quick UNsplit/SUB RX OFF function! Now Split on/off is as simple as PF1/PF2... Great Firmware! 73 Richard - HB9ANM
