I have had my KX3 for about 3 weeks and got the KXPA100 with the 100 watt tuner last week with the Elecraft interrogation KXPA100 cable set. What a sweet set up!
I am having a blast with this set up and have been off HF for several yeas. I mostly work CW and PSK31. I am getting my CW skills and fist back again. What I want the KX3 to do is to program PF1 and PF2 to configure the KX3 to do the following: PF1 turn the Mic Bias Off, disable the Mic PTT, and put the KX3 into Data A Mode for PSK31 PF2 turn the Mic Bias On, Enable the Mic PTT to up down and put the KX3 into CW mode. I see from the programming reference MD6; (Data A) MD3; (CW) MN135; (Mic Bias) MN082; (Mic BTN) MN255; (Exit Menu) ) What I can not figure out is how to toggle the menu selections. Mic BTN bit0 disabled Mic Bias bit 4 Could someone give me the string of commands to program : PF1 to put the KX3 into: Data Mode A, Mic Bias off, Mic Button disabled PF2 to put the KX3 into: CW Mode, Mic Bias On, Mic Button PTT up/ dwn I am not a programmer and find the programmers reference very complex. I know there is a command tester with the KX3 Utility. That still does not tell me how to toggle the Mic Bias or the Mic PTT? Thank you in advance for help Glenn Maclean WA7SPY ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Glenn,
Doing a toggle itself is not too difficult, just set the macro to do the button press. The impossible part is that one cannot read the state of mic bias in a macro and decide whether to turn bias on or leave it alone since bias is already set on. The mic bias *can* be left on for digital modes in most cases. If you are using an interface box, just make certain there is a DC Blocking capacitor in series with the AF output line - if there is none, add it. A 10 uF electrolytic will normally work fine. PTT is similar except that the menu has 3 positions - again there is no way for a macro to determine how it was previously set. If you intend leaving both the microphone and the data mode interface connected, I would suggest that using a physical switch to disable the PTT button on the microphone would be a better solution (but that means building an adapter with the switch). Leaving a microphone connected while operating data modes is not a good idea because the mic element will be live. I prefer to build an interface that has a switch to change between the microphone and the soundcard output. You might want to re-think your plans in light of these problems. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/2/2014 12:58 AM, WA7SPY wrote: > What I want the KX3 to do is to program PF1 and PF2 to configure the KX3 to do the following: > PF1 turn the Mic Bias Off, disable the Mic PTT, and put the KX3 into Data A Mode for PSK31 > > PF2 turn the Mic Bias On, Enable the Mic PTT to up down and put the KX3 into CW mode. > > I see from the programming reference MD6; (Data A) MD3; (CW) MN135; (Mic Bias) MN082; (Mic BTN) MN255; (Exit Menu) ) > > What I can not figure out is how to toggle the menu selections. I have a pair of macros set up on PF1 button that toggle between "data mode" (with mic bias/mic BTN off) and "SSB" mode (with mic bias/mic BTN enabled). Very handy when I want to jump on the KX3 to join an SSB net, and then put it back on the packet frequency when I'm finished. I also have some audio switching hardware to switch the KX3 between my packet PC and my microphone/headphones/external speakers (to reduce wear and tear on the KX3 audio connectors). If no one answers your question in the meantime, I'll post my macros when I get home tonight.
