couple have left the solar system, a good place
for them. I'd not want one in my ham shack ;-)

I sure hope it is an hardware only product.  Speaking quite candidly, I am tired of the countless software "updates" fixing bugs that should have been caught before the product is released.

I like the updates, George. Beats waiting five
years for today's version.

With the K2 firmware updates were truly "firm":
Buy new chips (there are six or so in a fully
optioned K2), disassemble the K2 and install them.
Sorta a PITA compared to the K3/KX3/etc. approach.

Hi Jeff,

A PC can work well, assuming it's fitted with a high-performance sound card, and that you're careful with cables and system grounding. This is sometimes hard to do, especially in a portable situation.

But the PX3 has a true 200-kHz span, and in most cases it will out-perform sound cards in terms of dynamic range. The PX3 also has very low noise thanks to an optimal choice of A-to-D converter (most of them have in-band noise humps that come up above the noise floor). It also has special input circuitry that rejects common-mode noise between the RX I/Q jacks on the radio and the PX3, without the need for isolation transformers.

Beyond that, there are some operators who prefer to have the spectral display right there where the action is, next to the radio. Turning on the PC can then be optional. The PC can still be used with the PX3 since we provide a way to daisy-chain both the control port (ACC1) and RX I/Q signals.
