Hello from Visalia, where the doors haven't opened yet. Of course the P3 is waiting for the crowd to gather in front of the Elecraft booth. Rose has already measured it for a cover. (:-) Of perhaps as much interest is the new KPA500 amplifier that's just appeared on the table. All I can tell you is that it's somewhat weighty and has a switching supply built into the cabinet. The cabinet is the same size as a K3, so Rose won't need to design a new cover. I really don't know much more ... stay tuned. 73! My money is on the 400-500W class amp in the "same sized box as the K3". Seriously, I really enjoy the speculation on the list, even when there is stoney silence from The Mountain. I'm sure a large part of Elecraft's market research comes in the form of just letting people toss ideas around on the reflector. When enough data is gathered (or the s/n ratio gets too low), it's time to end the thread. An incorrectly addressed reply led to that little slip, then a couple months later a mention of something new in a box the same size as the K3 was made. Assuming this is a solid state amp that can be powered by 120V (not 220V), I am extremely interested, too. This is just the amount of power boost I could sometimes use and it will not destroy my present switches and tuners (hopefully).

I'm intrigued, obviously we'd look for 220v over here, but why not 120v in US?

David,
Because not all have hamshacks that are wired for 220 volts. If the space was not wired specifically for hamshack use, there is likely to be only 120 volt receptacles available. Up to 1000 watts draw (500 watts with 50% efficiency) on a normal 120 volt 15 amp circuit is practical, but attempting to run more than becomes marginal. 73, Don W3FPR David Ferrington, M0XDF wrote: > I'm intrigued, obviously we'd look for 220v over here, but why not 120v in US? > 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174 > > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
All,
One would assume ( there's that word again) it would be jumpered for 120/240VAC as Elecraft sell worldwide. I would also think it will be built around MRF-150 FET's? IMD numbers should be good also. 120/240VAC as Elecraft sell worldwide. Unless they do what I am seeing more and more of in equipment that comes into my (work) lab. Switching supplies that handle 120-240V and 50/60Hz with nothing to change. -rick, K7LOG ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

that was my point, AB2TC is in the US - wouldn't you all have 120v?
99% of dwellings here have the standard 220v, very few have 3 phase 440v and then only for some specialist equipment. confused 73 de M0XDF -- They know enough who know how to learn. -Henry Adams (1838-1918) On 16 Apr 2010, at 21:40, Don Wilhelm wrote: > David, > > Because not all have hamshacks that are wired for 220 volts. Hi Gary
MRF150's would be great, maybe the newer more rugged VRF150's? I wonder if the AMP has a low drive switch for the 10 watt K3? If does, this will make it a good option for those running small QRP radios like the FT817. A KPA500 would be preferable to running a garbage CB amp like many people do. Tokyo high power has this feature on many of their amps. I think FCC rules prohibit low drive amps, I am not sure if this is allowed under the new changed FCC AMP rules. Time will tell.
