Hi Everyone,
As I sit back and read all of the emails day after day, I often contribute a email or two regarding some great DX that I often work on my K2/100. After reading about all of the difficulties on the email reflector that, some people have or having with the K2 or K2/100, Should I feel blessed ? As I have not have one minutes problem out of my K2/100, it is one of the best rigs I ever owned. Bill,
You are in the majority with your 'no problem' report. Consider that there are about 6000 K2s out there, and the average problem rate reported here seems to be only about 3 or 4 per week. That is less than 200 problems per year or only about 3% of the K2 owners report a problem in a year. Some problems are 'self-induced' (something gets damaged while making a change, acidental slip of a probe, etc.), and some are simply 'operator error', the actual failure rate for the K2 or K2/100 is very low - I would venture to say it is much less than 1% per year. If I remember my MTBF calculations, that would indicate 876,000 hours between failures (yes, my data is sketchy and therefore the calculation is inprecise). Folks do report 'occurances' here often, simply because they know that they can receive help with it. The result is that you will naturally see a lot of problem reports on this reflector, and is not a reflection of the 'ruggedness' of the K2 - in my experience, the K2 is quite robust. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Hi Everyone, > > As I sit back and read all of the emails day after day, I often > contribute a email or two regarding some great DX that I often > work on my K2/100. > After reading about all of the difficulties on the email > reflector that, some people have or having with the K2 or K2/100, > Should I feel blessed ? No problems here either and that surprises me since I'm the builder. I've
hooked stuff up backwards here and there, transmitted without an antenna, all sorts of du-fuss things. Had some problems during assembly but they all got resolved. Building the k2 was one of the finest achievements in my life and I hope to pass this rig to my son someday. At 2 1/2 he is already plugging all his shoe laces into a toy phone and toy laptop and trying to get somebody out there. I should take a picture of it. Looks like "Daddys" radios with all the wires (shoe laces) sticking out the back.
