Noise reduction setting suggestion for CW

Greg - AB7R
During this weekend's contest I found a nice K3 setting combination for CW.

I have a 400 Hz roofing filter engaged and the contect filter set to ON in the narrow 400 Hz position.  Then turn NR on set to 5-2.

Greg mean *context* filter which is also called dual passband (i.e. DUAL PB on the front panel).

Hi Greg:

I remember reading a comment from Lyle on the reflector. He said that the
first four NR selections are optimized for CW and the last 4 are optimized
for SSB.  This happened a few months ago when 5 through 8 were added.
Previously we only had 1 through 4. Lyle is the DSP engineer.

For CW, I personally have been using 4-1 to 4-4 exclusively, however, I have
also found that 5-1 and 5-2 sometimes seem a bit better.

I rarely use SSB but I remember trying it after reading Lyle's posting and
the higher numbers did sound better on SSB.

Mike K2MK

The primary reason for this is that the delay through the denoiser
filter is not deterministic.  Selections 5-8 do a "wet and dry mix" of
processed and unprocessed audio. This can result in scalloping of the
signal amplitude, so the user's CW pitch may end up being emphasized --
or severely attenuated -- depending on the pitch, mixing setting, and
the amount of noise being suppressed.

It may well be that Greg's preferred pitch is one that gets mildly
emphasized through this action with the setting he uses.

Lyle KK7P

Thanks for the explanation Lyle...that's exactly right.  Though I hesitated to use
the term, it actually acts like an APF for CW...at least with my settings it does.
Pitch is set at 550 Hz and using DSP 5-2 and the context filter on.
