What's a good user-group or email reflector for emtpy-state devices?
I had an overwhelming wave of nostalgia recently, and bought an HW-101 off eBay. It works (about 1% of the time), but mostly doesn't put out much RF. The REL POWER goes off the scale and output down to sub-watt; even with normal plate current, but occasionally it runs 100W out with all needles where they should be. The voltage chart shows 170 on a line out of the 1st IF amplifier key down, and I get the 170 key up, but key down it's 240. I don't remember enough theory to find the bad cap or whatever. When it occasionally does work, it'll put out full power for just long enough to grab the meter (the scope is always hooked up), but not long enough to measure anything. There are a couple other voltages near the finals looking wrong, but I'm not quite sure (besides they lead to the 1st IF amplifier - part of ALC feedback, I guess) how to troubleshoot them either. Anyhow, where do I turn for help on this sort of subject? There sure are a lot of knobs involved in a QSY - Makes me really appreciate the K2/KAT2! I bet you could burn up at least 3 minutes changing from 20M to 40! These things put out a lot more heat than I remember.
