Since this list is a font of everything electronic, can y'all help me with
this? I've got a HP DC power supply (6443B) that's worked great for a long time. I DON'T have a service manual for it (of course). Recently, when I turn this thing on, the voltage comes up, then drops off slowly (this is under no load conditions) over 20-30 seconds, then blows the C/B. I think I've troubleshot the problem down to the supply side capacitors. They're massive can-types. About 3" in diameter by 6" tall. On the side is the following information: Sprague Compulytic 32D 4500-150 DC 7230 L 0180-1839 I know Sprague has merged several times, but I've been trying to get some information about this part from my normal suppliers (Mouser, Digikey) with no luck... Rather than buying the manual for $35, can someone out there help me "decode" this part number? I figure if I can find the original capacitance and voltage/load ratings, I can just find a more modern replacement. Thanks in advance for the help, guys. I'm not sure what the question is, but those look like 4500 micro-farad, 150VDC
electrolytic caps. What would the HP manual tell you about them? On Fri, 14 Jan 2005 09:12:18 +1200, Richard T. Richard,
That is a 4700 uF 150 volt capacitor. You may not be able to find an exact replacement, but do check the mounting and the size that will fit. You are seeking a replacement capacitor that will fit into the available space and can be properly mounted - the capacitance should be somewhere near 4700 uF, but the voltage may be 150 volts or higher. Mouser does list several that may be close to what you are seeking. Mouser's 539-CGS200V5400 or 75-36DY472F250CD2A or 75-36DX422F250CF2A are possibilities I ran across - do check the physical size carefully before ordering, those large capacitors are quite pricy. 73, Don W3FPR ----- Original Message ----- > Since this list is a font of everything electronic, can y'all help me with > this? > > I've got a HP DC power supply (6443B) that's worked great for a long time. > I DON'T have a service manual for it (of course). Top of head thoughts,
Compulytic = Computer Grade Electrolytic ? 32D - sounds like a type reference ? 4500 - 150 DC = 4500 uF 150V DC ? Strange though as 4700 uF is the usual value and 100V or 200V are the usual nearby voltage ratings. 7230L - maybe the part number ? 0180-1839 - maybe the HP stock number ? My guess is that Sprague supplied these as "specials" to a HP spec. This sort of thing happened a lot when I was with RCA. 73 and good luck, Geoff.
