Hello Group,
We all enjoy our kit building experience from Elecraft. Are there any kit manufacturers of Hi-Fi audio amplifier (or related audio products) in US? Of course, I am looking for high quality equivalent to Elecraft. I am just dreaming an audio amplifier kit from Mark Levinson or Krell. Back around 1955 or so, I built an Altec-Lansing audio amplifier from a kit. Although that company had a pretty good reputation at the time, this device wasn't anything to boast about. It used eyelets to interconnect both sides of the PC boards and many of them had poor conductivity (that technology should never have seen the light of day--I have also seen Motorola and Icom products which also suffered from intermittent eyelets).

Yes. That WOULD be interesting. Not since Dynaco in the 70's have I
seen a decent Hi-Fi amplifier in kit form. 73, Doug -- K0DXV On 04/28/2011 07:10 PM, Johnny Siu wrote: > Hello Group, > > We all enjoy our kit building experience from Elecraft. Hi,
All I know about these kits is that I was reading about them recently, they were favorably reviewed, and I saved the company link. With that disclaimer, the InterStage Mono Block amplifier kit will only run you $3800: http://www.audionotekits.com/monob01.html They have a few other kits, too. Thanks, Byron. I should say I am looking for solid state power amplifier kit.

I home-brewed a (tube) stereo amplifier from a Dynaco circuit using their transformers in the early 1960s. It was first class, but not up to the physical standards of Elecraft! It saw over 10 years of service in the US and overseas until I replaced it with a solid-state integrated tuner-amplifier. -- 73 de K2ASP - Phil Kane Elecraft K2/100 s/n 5402 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I have built the Pluto "semi-kit" from Linkwitzlab and recommend it. It is an active loudspeakers with an unconventional soundstage and design, look at http://www.linkwitzlab.com/.

Be aware that class-D (digital) audio amplifiers like this, in combination with long loudspeaker wires, don't always go so well with amateur radio. Sometimes they radiate well into the lower short-wave range. Unless of course, you turn off the stereo whenever you turn on the radio ...

A low-pass filter on the output works well, and is easy to construct if the
power is reasonable! A 3-pole Chebyshev filter works well. In the datasheets for these amplifiers there's usually a recommendation to do as much unless the cable to the speaker is very short (ie. built into the unit). 73 de Thomas M0TRN On 30 April 2011 10:48, Sverre Holm (LA3ZA) <[hidden email]> wrote: > Be aware that class-D (digital) audio amplifiers like this, in combination > with long loudspeaker wires, don't always go so well with amateur radio. > Sometimes they radiate well into the lower short-wave range.
