I see the Pigremote is out of stock. Is there any idea when they may become
available again? I will be using it with my K3. I just had a heart transplant along with a new pacemaker and the docs want me to stay away from the transmitter till everything shakes out so I am hoping to control my rig from another room. Itching to get back on the air. I have been in the hospital since Nov 20th. Thank you for any help. 73 de Tim, KQ8M [hidden email] ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Tim,
I don't know about PigRemote, but another K3 operating in TERMINAL mode as well as the KX3 will give you that capability - as will the K3/0 and K3/mini. Since you will be operating "remote" but only on your local network, you can operate without RemoteRig, just an ethernet connection. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/4/2018 10:34 AM, KQ8M wrote: > I see the Pigremote is out of stock. Hi Tim,
I hope you get better soon. There are many control and logging software programs that you can use to operate your rig from the next room or even another State. Some are free and some cost $$$. See http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm On Thu, Jan 4, 2018 at 10:34 AM, KQ8M <[hidden email]> wrote: > I see the Pigremote is out of stock. Hope the surgery and recovery goes well. I doubt there is much RF
around the transmitter. At least there shouldn't be much if any. However, the radiation from the antenna could be another story. 73 Bob, K4TAX On 1/4/2018 9:34 AM, KQ8M wrote: > I see the Pigremote is out of stock. Hi Don,
Presently I can barely afford the pigremote let alone another k3 or k3/0. I would mainly be using it from home in the in-house network but if I end up in the hospital again I would like to be able to operate from there also. Trying to cover all bases within my means. 73 de Tim, KQ8M -----Original Message----- From: Don Wilhelm [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, January 4, 2018 10:54 AM To: [hidden email]; [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] OT: Pigremote availability Tim, I don't know about PigRemote, but another K3 operating in TERMINAL mode as well as the KX3 will give you that capability - as will the K3/0 and K3/mini. Hope you make a full and speedy recovery. It is your aerial which radiates your transmitted signal - therefore operating the radio from a different room is unlikely to help you, it might even put you in a higher RF field. However, if you are able to use the internet to remotely operate a friends radio across town, that could be a way forward. Hi Tim,
Just saw your other message direct to me. I'll reply here for anyone else that may be curious. I have all of the individual components that go into making a PigRemote except for a pretty important one, the audio codec board. When I first designed PR I decided to not put the audio codec, and it's related circuitry, directly on the PR motherboard for certain reasons I'll spare you the details of. The price for manufacturing that board has gone up drastically since I last ordered, probably because I always deal in relatively small quantities and board fab shops like to address something called a burden rate when accepting jobs. I'm not sure when I'll have that critical component so I can't make any guarantees on when I might be able to get one to you. It'd probably be faster to ask this group if anyone has one for sale. The PR was primarily designed to interface with the K3 and KX3 so there should be more than a handful out there. Whether or the owners want to part with them, not sure. :) On a side note, I do have a prototype PR that works with the K3 USB connection and it's the size of a deck of cards. I should revisit that to see about making it a product offering. 73, Nick N3WG On Thu, Jan 4, 2018 at 8:51 AM, Walter Underwood <[hidden email]> wrote: > It might be worth asking for an RF exposure limit, then doing the station > evaluation worksheet from the FCC. > > Links to worksheet here: > > http://www.arrl.org/rf-exposure > > From the Medtronic patient letter (I’d get an official, current one for > your model of pacemaker, of course): > > Maintain a distance of at least 6 inches between your heart device and: > > ♦ Antennas of cellular phones, amateur radios, ham radios, walkie talkies > of 3 watts or less. Thank you for your reply, Nick.
I did locate one for sale and have gone that direction. Sorry, you are having trouble with the parts. I know what it's like designing something then one of the main parts either becomes obsolete or cost rise sharply.
