Hi gang,
Does anyone know of a software clock that will display UTC on the Windows desktop or, perhaps, in the system tray, beside the regular Windows clock? I don't want to change my Windows clock to UTC -- I want to be able to see both local time and UTC at a glance. I could simply use a physical clock external to the PC, but that would mean buying an illuminated 24-hour clock, and I'm trying to minimize the amount of clutter on my operating desk. My K2 has a clock mode, but it's not very convenient, since the time isn't displayed continuously. Thanks very much for any ideas & 73, Jeff [hidden email] Long Island, NY _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Windows VISTA supports (almost) unlimited clocks.

A simple, easy to use, no frills UTC clock can be downloaded from
k2vco's website at http://www.qsl.net/k2vco/. It's near the bottom of the page. And it's free. 73, ed - k9ew On 1/17/07, Jeff <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi gang, > > Does anyone know of a software clock that will display UTC on the Windows > desktop or, perhaps, in the system tray, beside the regular Windows clock? > I don't want to change my Windows clock to UTC -- I want to be able to see > both local time and UTC at a glance. I wrote a program to do exactly this. I have Vic's UTC clock on my desktop and like it a lot.
Unless Vic fixed it, you should load it into its own folder in the root of the C drive. I recall some sort of problem when I loaded it as a folder in Program Files, but it has been a while and I forget the exact trouble I had. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > Jeff wrote: > > Hi gang, > > > > Does anyone know of a software clock that will display UTC on > the Windows > > desktop or, perhaps, in the system tray, beside the regular > Windows clock? > > I wrote a program to do exactly this. It used to use an ini file in the program directory to save settings. If you were logged on as a user that didn't have rights to change something in 'program files' then it couldn't save it's settings. Much as I hated the idea, I changed it to use the Windows registry as Mr. Gates prefers. Now it doesn't have to have write permission to its program directory. -- 73, Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Towards the bottom of the page, AGWDXClock. Displays local and UTC. Works well and hasn't caused any memory issues. Although anymore, I just stay logged into QRZ.com and grab the UTC time of when I looked up the contact. Does you install ask the user if the program is to be installed for that user only or everyone that uses the computer? I believe the second condition would allow any user to save settings...most of the programs I install work that way. > > Much as I hated the idea, I changed it to use the Windows registry as Mr. > Gates prefers. There are many programs in a class that will never write to registry...they are favored my folks who use USB drives. I have made reuests to several vendors to allow their programs to live on a USB drive, which means nothing is written to the registry. Many of them are makeing the switch. I use foxclocks to display UTC in the bottom left of my FireFox, and N0HR's
PropFire to show solar conditions at the bottom right! 73 de chris K6DBG _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
