OT. what power for K3 in portable use?

Hi elecrafters,

I would like to have some advise about powering the k3 while I am portable.
can not be very heavy because what I realy like is to go out to the mountain
with a small backpack.

For backpacking use, you might want to look into the K3's little
brothers, the KX1 and the K1.

Manolo,

Choose the largest 12 to 14 volt battery that you are willing to carry
along - if the sun is shining, you may want to extend the operating time
by adding a solar panel to the battery to keep the charge level up.

The K3 draws about 900 ma. on receive, and the current will be more when
transmitting - the transmit current depends on the power level you have
set.  You can calculate your operating time on any battery by referring
to the Amp/Hour rating of the battery - you will likely be able to use
it for about 1/3 of the AH rating - when the battery drops to about 11
volts, you should stop using it until re-charged.  Keep the power
setting low to extend your operating time.  Have fun!
