Those of you who are thinking about doing a small QRP Field-Day
operation this year, without computer logging, may be interested in the log sheets and dupe sheets I'm using. I created these to eliminate the need to handle multiple sheets of paper or clip boards. Sometimes there just isn't room on a small table, and if you're doing a trail-side operation, you may not have a table at all. These log and dupe sheets, used together, require just a single 8.5 x 11" clip board. The top third of the space is used for a stack of log sheets, and the bottom two-thirds is occupied by the dupe sheet. The Microsoft Word files can be found at: http://home.comcast.net/~wayneb74/wayne/FD_mini_log.doc http://home.comcast.net/~wayneb74/wayne/FD_mini_dupe_sheet.doc Using Word, you can modify the rows in the dupe sheet to match your anticipated QSOs per call area. For example, in my case I made the "6" and "7" call area rows taller than the others. The dupe sheets are adequate for small FD operations, but you'll need to write small (I suggest using pencil, too). The log sheets each have room for 20 QSOs, plus a scratch area at the right. The dupe sheet includes one page of log at the top. Cut the log sheets into three strips as indicated by the lines below the log entry area. Next, stack the log sheets at the top of the dupe sheet, and slip the whole thing onto a clip board. Feel free to modify and use these files as you wish. If you have suggestions for improvements, either now or after you try using them, please let me know. 73, Wayne N6KR --- http://www.elecraft.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. You only have to report callsigns on each band. So if you really want to
compact it, drop "time" and "exchg", don't mix bands on one page, and record only callsigns. IOW, a well-designed dupe sheet is sufficient. This is true, Craig, and you could modify the files accordingly.
I find the exchange information useful for cross-checking later. I included a "time" column to keep track of rough QSO rate. This column can also be used to record the date, operator name, etc. Wayne N6KR On Jun 24, 2005, at 1:08 PM, Craig Rairdin wrote: > You only have to report callsigns on each band. IOW, a well-designed dupe sheet is sufficient. That technique proved problematic not too long after WPX got interesting in the late 70s. A serious FD effort that might make >1k QSOs on a band/mode could easily be done on that old A3-sized ARRL dupe sheet, but it all got messy after WD. Worked great as long as you remember not to swat mosquitos that land on the "log", no matter how tempting - that gets even messier. ;^) Everybody have fun on FD. We don't have anything like it out here, so as I tune the bands hoping to work a KH6 or W6 if I'm really lucky, the last weekend of June usually means a time to reflect on memories of FDs past. I think it was '77 (last FD before 2x1s were introduced?) that FD for me was at Seattle's Space Needle. Anybody try /pm there with a KX1 yet? The 80m inverted-vee & 40m full sloper we had strung from the very top would be fun with _any_ rig if it were possible to do something like that again! 73, VR2BrettGraham _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. > Thanks for posting these - they worked great! > > 73 de Larry W2LJ You're welcome, Larry. Glad someone besides me got some use out of them. The new log/dupe sheet system worked well for me since I was using a very small, lightweight backpacking table. With the clip-board in position for logging, there was still plenty of room for the KX1, chips, salsa, wrist watch, bottle of Oatmeal Stout, and my arm :) When I got home I touched up the log sheet based on my experience in the field. I added a BAND column, so there wouldn't be a need to keep separate log stacks on a per-band/mode basis. For example, you might record "20 CW", "40 SSB", etc. in this column, or use it to indicate an operator change. I'll probably make further changes before next year, and I'll re-post them before FD '06. 73, Wayne N6KR ---- http://www.elecraft.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
