P3 Com Port Issues

Terry Schieler
My P3 (#318) was delivered last week.  This morning I finally got time to
assemble it.  What a joy!

I installed the P3 with the computer serial cable routed through it to the
K3.  Since my first day of owning my K3 (#474) I have had the ability for my
logging software (N3FJP) to control the K3.  Upon connecting the P3 today I
get Com Port errors (port already in use) when trying to use the logging
software.  I made no changes to the logging settings, simply routed the
serial cable thorough the P3 as designed.  Using today's version of K3
firmware.

I seem to recall a thread on this subject some time back but can't find it
when I need it.  Can anyone point me toward the resolution?

Thanks.  73,

Terry, W0FM

Re: P3 Com Port Issues

One quick thing to check Terry is the data rate on both the K3/P3 and your
logging program.  They must be the same, and installation of the P3 may have
changed one of them.

It sounds like you have some other program on the PC using the COM port.
By any chance do you have P3 Utility or K3 Utility running at the same
time as the logging program?  They can't both use the same COM part at
the same time.

Perfect.  You nailed it Craig!  The logging software had been reset to 2.4.
I had rechecked the Com Port setting but didn't look at the data rate. I
changed it to 38.4 and all is well again.  Thanks very much.

Thanks for the reply Alan.  The data rate in the logging software had been changed somehow when I installed the P3.  Reset the rate to 38.4 and all is well.

Thanks for all you do!!
