Good Morning, I am considering a P3 to go along with my K3. I would like to sit the P3 on top of my K3 but not sure whether or not that would be a good idea. I see there are ventilation vents on top of the K3 and not sure how critical those vents are to the total operation of the K3. I really don't have anyplace else to sit the P3. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Mark Griffin, KB3Z

I've been running my P3 on top of the K3 for a few years now with no
ill effects. 73, matt W6NIA On Thu, 11 Apr 2013 07:03:52 -0500 (CDT), you wrote: >Good Morning, I am considering a P3 to go along with my K3. The left side of the top of the K3 is clear, about the size of the P3.

I think if you put it on the left side of the K3, there would be plenty of vent on the right left.

Hi Mark,
If you look at my QRZ page you'll see the P3 centered on top of the K3. That's an old photo. I've since added the SVGA option and relegated the P3 to the left side of the K3. While I had the P3 on top there were absolutely no heat problems. I used some rubbery black shelf liner (the kind that's a waffle design) to give the P3 a little more grip. I cut out the liner where it covered the K3 speaker. Some speaker volume is sacrificed with the P3 on top but I mostly use headphones so it was not a problem. 73, Mike K2MK

No problem with operation. The only glitch is that because I have both K3s tilted upward with the built-in bail, the P3s will sometimes slide down when I push a button, so I've learned to do that carefully. :) 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Jim,
Waffle style non-adhesive shelf liner works well for this application. Cut it out over the speaker or just use two narrow strips. One strip for the front feet of the P3 and the other strip for the rear feet. Here's a link with a nice illustration: http://www.amazon.com/Duck-1100733-Non-Adhesive-12-Inch-20-Square-Feet/dp/B002AS9NB2/ref=pd_sim_hg_2 It is available at Home Depot and Lowes in smaller/cheaper rolls. 73, Mike K2MK
