For the display, I'd like to see an option for the Scale to be scaled
in a logarithmic fashion. This would allow seeing weaker stations as well as the "OMG! They're going to burn up the front end" stations. Stock charts are frequently plotted this way. 73, Steve NN4X ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
The scales on the P3 are in dBm, which already IS logarithmic. You
are looking to see the logarithm of the dB logarithm on the P3? I can sort of understand that, but what would you call the units? Aren't you really looking for a greater dB range in the presentation? 73, Guy On Mon, Sep 6, 2010 at 3:54 PM, S Sacco <[hidden email]> wrote: > For the display, I'd like to see an option for the Scale to be scaled > in a logarithmic fashion. Hi Steve
It would be nice just to be able to switch between Dbm, S-units and DbUV. The DbUV scale is most often seen on professional receivers and its a very useful scale. 73 John --- On Mon, 9/6/10, S Sacco <[hidden email]> wrote: > From: S Sacco <[hidden email]> > Subject: [Elecraft] P3 Improvement Suggestion > To: "Elecraft Reflector" <[hidden email]> > Date: Monday, September 6, 2010, 12:54 PM > For the display, I'd like to see an > option for the Scale to be scaled > in a logarithmic fashion. Guy -
I'm not sure what you would call it, but the purpose would be to provide more screen real-estate for the small signals, at the expense of the large signals. This would be very valuable on a small display, such as the P3. On a larger display, it would have little value. 73, Steve NN4X On Mon, Sep 6, 2010 at 4:49 PM, Guy Olinger K2AV <[hidden email]> wrote: > The scales on the P3 are in dBm, which already IS logarithmic. I find I have done this (initially at least until I figure out how I am
really supposed to do it) by setting the display to show the noise floor at the bottom of the window and then only 20 or 30 db above it, not all the way up to -70 or so. Yes the stronger signals go off the top but I don't care about their height anyway when looking for those smaller ones. That helps the weak ones stand out. Just learning of course. 73, de Jim KG0KP ----- Original Message ----- From: "S Sacco" <[hidden email]> To: "Guy Olinger K2AV" <[hidden email]> Cc: "Elecraft Reflector" <[hidden email]> Sent: Monday, September 06, 2010 5:39 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] P3 Improvement Suggestion Guy - I'm not sure what you would call it, but the purpose would be to provide more screen real-estate for the small signals, at the expense of the large signals. I'd be tempted to call it compression (or expansion, depending which part of
the screen is being treated) someone will throw another into the pot no doubt.
