P3 Mounting Tip

Jim Brown-10
To conserve desk space in my shack, I've always set my P3s on top of the
K3s (two for SO2R contesting). Because I have the K3s tilted up with the
fold-down bail, the P3s tended to slide down. Then I found a solution so
simple that I'm ashamed to say I hadn't thought of it before -- small
Velcro tabs on the front feet of the P3, to mating tabs on the top of
the K3. As our friends in the UK might say, "it works a treat!"

BTW -- I do set the P3 to one side of the top to minimize interference
with air flow.

Re: P3 Mounting Tip

Wunder,
I contacted Dycem and the materials are available on-line. They have a sheet
of 12 "dots" with adhesive on one side for $10.76. These might be optimal
for sticking on the feet of the P3, etc.
The website for their sales is:

There is a rubber/plastic non-slip material made by Dycem and used by
occupational therapists. It is really grabby, but not adhesive. It would be
great for keeping things from sliding around on a desk. I have not looked
for small quantities, but if you know a physical therapist or occupational
therapist, you might be able to get a few inches.

I use the sticky back Velcro to hold my Garmin GPSIII+ to the dashboard
of my truck, and I used a little bit to hold a muffin fan on top of my
K2/100 for RTTY before I sold the KPA100.

I was having a continuous problem with the K3 moving around when I tried
to tap or hold the switches, and I was pushing the paddle around on the
desk [built my first keyer in 1956 and transitioned from the bug, so I
tend to knock the paddle around a lot}.  Then I discovered "moulding
tape" from the auto parts store.  Two tiny little squares under the
front feet of the K3 and the paddle solved the problem.

I have to work a bit to get them unstuck, so don't use very much, but
they leave no residue and my paddle might as well be screwed down.
