P3 Span Readout Anomaly

John_N1JM
If I turn span on with the right hand button and then push my span preprogrammed lower button(50khz), the readout will say 500 even though the span is 50. A bug??

Don Wilhelm's parts list includes 2 25v electrolytic capacitors.  The capacitors are out of stock at Mouser.  Can I substitute 50v capacitors which are in stock?

Re: K2 - N0SS Fixed Audio Output Mod

Don Wilhelm-4
Ariel,

Electrically, you may always substitute a capacitor with a higher
voltage rating.  Whether the larger physical size is OK or nor is a
different problem.

Yes, you can use a component with a higher voltage rating. Before you buy
them I would suggest you check the physical dimensions and pin spacing to
make sure they will fit on the PCB.

Thanks Don and Kevin

I am following the instructions on the W3FPR website and applying it to the K2/100.  I checked with Mouser on the lead spacing and they are the same.

Hi John,

I can't duplicate that bug here.  First try a parameter reset by holding the MENU and powering up using the POWER key.  If the problem is still present, email me directly at pauls at elecraft dot com.

Re: P3 Span Readout Anomaly

In reply to this post by Paul Saffren N6HZ
Paul,

I see the same issue on my P3, but it only occurs if: 1- Span is selected
from the right column of buttons, and 2 - Span 200 is selected from FN8.
After that, selecting 10, 30, or 50, from FN2-4 results in a menu display of
100, 300, and 500, with an actual bandwidth display of 10, 30, and 50,
respectively. If 2 (Span) is selected by FN1, the problem goes away.

I have the following presets: FN1 - 2 (Span), FN2 - 10 (Span), FN3 - 30
(Span), FN4 - 30 (Span), FN5 - Peak, FN6 - Lvl Mode, FN7 - Ref Cal, FN8 -
200 (Span).

73,

Dwayne WV5I

Hi Dwayne,

We've been able to duplicate it here as well.  Of course it's just a
problem with clearing the previous digits from the display, and not a
span of 500 KHz (wishful thinking :-) )

Re: P3 Span Readout Anomaly

Dwayne Rohmer-2
In reply to this post by n6hz
A span of 500 kHz would be nice when the bands are quiet, but with an
inverted-v in Texas, the P3 can get quite busy with Span set at 200 kHz, so
I usually keep it set at from 2 to 50 kHz, depending on if I'm using CW or
SSB.
