P3 Tap/QSY

J. Crit Harley, MD, C.Ht.
I just added the P3 and am thoroughly enjoying it.
And have a question about the Tap/QSY function.
It seems to have about the same mechanical feel as the tap/hold buttons
on the K3
but it does not seem to work 100% of the time.  I have to tap repeatedly
sometimes to get it to move.  Is this normal?  What is your Tap/QSY
action like?

Re: P3 Tap/QSY

Cady, Fred
I found I didn't like tapping the knob to qsy. I had to be very careful
not to slightly twist the knob while tapping so I programmed FN4 to be
the Knob Tap and FN8 to be the Knob Hold functions. Works great.

Hi, Crit:

I was just about to send the P3 FT team the same question.  I have
never reported it but by my calculation, about one-in-10 times I tap the QSY
button, nothing happens and it takes a second push to get the desired
result.
At first I thought it was a somewhat intermittent switch but it
occurred to me that the problem could be a firmware issue.  Maybe the P3
only looks at this switch position 90% of the time :)
Are any other P3 owners seeing this phenomenon?  If so, we should
report them here because Alan N1AL watches these posts and he has not been
shy about taking care of these sorts of things on behalf of Elecraft.

        73,
        Gary, VE1RGB

Re: P3 Tap/QSY

I have programmed FN4 and FN8 as Fred does.

I originally did it in an attempt to cut down on any possible long-term wear of the Tap=QSY button but have gotten used to it and prefer using FN4/8.

Also, as mentioned, it eliminates the problem that some people have caused by turning the knob slightly when tapping it.
