P3/AGC Issue:
I have an intermittent issue that occurs when jumping frequency with the 'tap' on the freq select knob on the P3 - This happens fairly often - it disables my AGC - resulting in a blast of audio in my cans - till I get the AGC set again. I think I have the latest firmware download (I got it last week) but can't check that right now P3 want list: I would like to fix the P3 display - so it doesn't travel with the VFO tuning - I don't think that is possible now? It would be real nice to see the band segment displayed - fixed on the display and tune around in it.... the waterfall wouldn't slide and I could tune to where I wanted to be with the little bandwidth 'box'. Anybody else want that? This is RIDICULOUS!!
Do you guys read the manual? Based on all of the whining posts the last few days, it's apparent that there are a lot K3 and P3 owners who've never bothered to open the freakin' book. Agc, noise, this that, good grief. IT isn't just about the K3 -- it's about how to use a RADIO!! I apologize for being a bit peevish in this post, but REALLY people. I have tapped my P3's knob a bezillion times and never had AGC disabled. You need to check the rest of your settings. Or maybe just RTFM, or figure out how to use the radio -- which most of us have. And it isn't rocket science. Everybody has a bitch, and blames it on somebody else! "I would like to fix the P3 display - so it doesn't travel with the VFO tuning"
Bruce W8RA Hi Bruce: I believe this is on the "to do list". However, you can simulate very much of what you want by using VFO B (with or without the Sub-Rx). If you have the sub-receiver, here is what you do: 1. Tap A=B on the K3 twice to equalize VFO's and set to same mode, bandwidth, etc. 2. Reduce P3 scan to reasonable range (say 12-50khz) so you can see signals easily. 3. Turn Sub-Rx on. (Set volume so that you hear VFO B signals well in right ear; Turn down volume on VFO A if you like; or use "Balance" setting). 4. Now you can tune around with VFO B knob and it simulates exactly what you are asking for. P3 display stays still, and you search around listening to what you want. 5. If you want to work a station heard on VFO B, just tap A/B on the K3 and transmit. (You can turn off sub now if it bothers you). If you don't have the Sub-Rx you can still do some of this: 1. Tap A=B twice to equalize VFO's and set to same mode, bandwidth, etc. 2. Reduce P3 scan to reasonable range (say 12-50khz) so you can see signals easily. 3. Now you can tune around with VFO B knob and put the bandwidth indicator under a signal of interest. The display will not slew around. [With practice, the right scan width, and the recognition that stations like to work on whole khz numbers, you will get it spot on frequency very quickly.] 5. Just tap A/B to listen to signal (and transmit if desired). Just tap A/B again to return to previous signal. Hope this helps, Regards, John, N6JW
