P3 as a RFI/QRN tracking device

In the below link please find a screen shot (Flickr) of the P3 display as well as a hint as to what it is. I was never able to run down the noise before I got the P3. I wonder if others have used the P3 to chase down interference?

I haven't named the offending device as a brain tickle :)

Nulls 10 kHz apart imply something that puts out pulses that are 100
usec (1/10,000 sec) wide.

Good guess Vic,
I finally ran this down to the electronic dish washer. It has a two hour wash cycle it is a Bosch model SHX68P05UC/58.

It uses some pulsing to control motor functions. As pointed out by Alan (N1AL) they must use pulse control with a duration of 1/ 10,000 sec to create a signal with 10KHZ nulls. Alan also pointed out that a hash filter may be needed and suggested K9YC's very informative web site for hash control:

The point of the post was to mention how useful the P3 is for running down these annoying intruders in our spectrum and to solicit others experiences. The P3 has become much more of a tool for me than I ever expected, far exceeding explications. With more improvements and VGA output on the way I see an even greater use for the P3 as test gear as well as an operating aid. As an operating aid, I think I notice shifting operating methods in DX pile-ups because of it as well.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for posting the answer, I was wondering what it was. The P3
is a great tool for interference reduction work. I was
amazed how noisy my Astron switcher actually is. Seeing what was actually
occurring was very different than hearing the birdies "fly" thru and be audible
only at times as they drifted around.

To elaborate on your soliciting others experiences comment, what
would make the P3 even more useful would be a collection and hosting of screen
grabs of interference sources with their identification. Here in suburbia I may
never experience noise from an electric fence but should one suddenly appear
having a reference pattern might save a lot of grief. Yours, although may be
model specific, is still a great example of, look for motor control types of
interference.
