Would some kind soul remind me what the status is (if any), for the
putative external monitor mod for the P3? I asked this question i *think* 2 weeks ago, got no response. @Elecraft (Eric/Wayne/Alan etc.): Can we just have confirmation that this IS still on the roadmap? If not, that's okay too, I just want to know either way. Perhaps something announced @Dayton? :-) 73 -aps (KC2ZSX) ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi John,
I am also very interested in an external monitor connection. The P3 is very nice but it's a strain on these old eyes. I have a second monitor on my desk where I now display the VE7CC cluster which leads me to wonder if it would be possible to use an AB switch to switch between the P3 and the PC. I don't know if anybody makes 25 pin AB switches and I don't know if removal of a monitor from a PC would cause PC problems. Perhaps someone could comment. 73, Mike K2MK

I had a switch like that, it would change between 2 full set of keyboard, mouse and monitor (vga only, not dvi). I had a simple mechanical switch, but professional ones with electronic control exist and are frequently used in racks of servers. As for problems to the PC, if the operating system or graphical subsystems communicats with the monitor to get screen resolution and supported modes (it's called EDID data, iirc), it may default to some safe low res (640x480@60Hz, maybe) if the monitor is disconnected when the system starts. Or it may fail to start at all, you have to test that to see what your OS does. We're actively designing the external monitor h/w and software fro the
P3 right now. 73, Eric WA6HHQ _..._ On 4/30/2011 4:56 PM, Alexander Sack wrote: > On Sat, Apr 30, 2011 at 5:45 PM, John Ragle<[hidden email]> wrote: >> Would some kind soul remind me what the status is (if any), for the >> putative external monitor mod for the P3? ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Eric,
Does this design also include the keyboard connection also? 73's Gary On 2 May 2011 07:38, Alexander Sack <[hidden email]> wrote: > On Sun, May 1, 2011 at 3:29 PM, Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft > <[hidden email]> wrote: > > We're actively designing the external monitor h/w and software fro the P3 > > right now. > > > > Thanks Eric, that's all I wanted to know! :-) > > -aps > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > -- VK4FD - Motorhome Mobile Elecraft Equipment K3 #679, KPA-500 #018 Living the dream!!! ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

There are two video standards for monitors, 15 pin VGA and DVI.
I assume Elecraft will use VGA as that is the most widespread. Anybody with a DVI only monitor will have to get an adapter. They do make VGA video switches. Just Google VGA video switch. Make sure that it is an electronic switch such as a "KVM switch" (Google that) rather than a mechanical switch box. Some devices "freeze up" if the monitor is abruptly removed (learned that the hard way). -- 73 de K2ASP - Phil Kane Elecraft K2/100 s/n 5402 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
