I'm considering installing the 0.36 P3 firmware, but am not in the habit of
using beta versions of the K3 firmware, which is required for total support of 0.36. I do not use HRD or have any other known response/latency issues. Also no immediate plans to use the function key implementation of QSY tap/hold. Release notes indicate that these are the main improvements in 0.36. My question for folks who have tried it is: Are there any other benefits of 0.36 that I would notice or enjoy? You didn't mention which version you are using?
My P3 originally had version 0.33 I upgraded to 0.36 because it asl included these 2 items found in version: MCU 00.34 / 8/24/2010 * Eliminates rare screen freeze after transmit. * The amplifier relay clicks less often. I had had an occasional screen freeze after transmit. After the upgrade to 0.36 I no longer have the problem. GB & 73 K5OAI Sam Morgan On 9/20/2010 8:44 AM, Craig D. I'm using 0.36, and like you have no need to use the function key
implementation of QSY tap/hold. However, I do run LP-Pan/PowerSDR concurrently with the P3 at times and the 0.36 serial port changes have eliminated some problems I was experiencing in that case. But beyond that, nothing else noticed or enjoyed. Here's another un-original idea: how about static band edge markers on the P3? These would be vertical red lines on the spectrum display to demarcate the ham bands. I like having these in the PowerSDR display when hopping around the band, to have a rough idea of my position relative to the bottom of the CW band. Sure, there is a numerical readout of cursor position, but panadaptor tuning is supposed to be an unabashedly visual experience, right? At present I use the VFO B marker for this purpose, parking it at the lower band edge. This is particularly useful when CENTER has been held and I'm surveying the band by changing the center frequency using the QSY knob. Bob NW8L On Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 7:44 AM, Craig D. Bob,
I like your idea of "static band edges", but would like to add for Elecraft consideration, band edges settable by our license class so we can remember our own "band edges" assigned on some bands!! Would solve this old guy having to look constantly at a current frequency list to see if I can operate there, hi. 73, Don, WB5HAK ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
From another old Geezer...
The solution to the band edge problem is to upgrade to Extra Class...just think of all those extra Hertzls! I know, John, but I'm just a stubborn old geezer, and my mind wants to
believe that my Advanced class license just reassures me that I had to take a "real" exam, with schematics, to get it, hi. Truth more likely is that I'm just too lazy and don't see much benefit to me the way I operate. 75 meters is my worst to remember, for some reason. Just a thought, but surely red lines on P3 would stop me from making an error. 73, Don, WB5HAK ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Not a good idea, Bob, unless the band edges can be user programmable. The band edges are not the same for everyone. Let's not complicate the issue; there are more pressing priorities. 73 de David G4DMP ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
