I finally got to try my P3/K3/XV-144 out in the EME "contest" this past weekend. To my amazement, I could
actually see the WSJT tones off the moon for the stronger stations. Most of the time I couldn't, of course, but the P3 was very useful for spotting QRM and birdies when hunting around for a clear QRG. If I were able to play with the contrast of the waterfall, along with REF LVL settings, the P3 might be even better for weak signal work. I took a couple of screen captures, but I have no website to host them. 73 Eric WD6DBM K3, XV144, P3, XV432, K2, K1, KX1, mini modules, etc. Sent from my &$@!? iPhone ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
suggest you join the Elecraft_K3 yahoo group (http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Elecraft_K3) and then you can put them in the photos section.

Hi Eric,
You can improve the contrast of the waterfall by expanding the SCALE. To maximize waterfall contrast, I adjust the REF LVL to place the noise right at the bottom of the spectrum display and then expand the SCALE as much as possible while keeping the signals below the top of the screen. I used the P3/K3 combo to keep an eye on the activity on the bands 1.3 thro
10GHz during the European tropo microwave contest last weekend. It was useful, however I had to disable the direct frequency readout on these bands as the P3 "tune and click" knob could not cope with bands above 144MHz. Hi Dave,
The latest P3 firmware (00.36) fixed a bug that prevented the P3 from properly indicating K3 frequencies above 200 MHz.
