I've had this happen 3 times over a 2 day period.
I'll be doing something, like my email or whatever, and when I get back to the radio the screen on the P3 is frozen. Never happens when I'm tuning or transmitting. I have no idea what it may be. Anybody else have this happen? P3 is powered from K3, RS232 is coming in via a microHAM 2R+. All connection are tight. de K2GN - Larry <mailto:[hidden email]> - http://k2gn.com <http://k2gn.com/> K3 S/N - 3278 P3 S/N - 51 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
What do you need to do to correct the problem? Cycle power?

Hi Larry,
What version of P3 firmware are you using? There were some improvements made to the RS-232 communications in beta version 00.31 and later. I believe 00.32 is now officially released on the FTP site: http://www.elecraft.com/software/P3/elecraft_p3_software.htm It should download automatically using P3 Utility. 73, Alan N1AL On Thu, 2010-08-19 at 16:00 -0400, Larry - K2GN wrote: > I've had this happen 3 times over a 2 day period. > > I'll be doing something, like my email or whatever, and when I get > > back to the radio the screen on the P3 is frozen. > > Never happens when I'm tuning or transmitting. > > I have no idea what it may be. > > > > Anybody else have this happen? > > > > P3 is powered from K3, > > RS232 is coming in via a microHAM 2R+. > > All connection are tight. > > de K2GN - Larry <mailto:[hidden email]> - http://k2gn.com <http://k2gn.com/> > > > K3 S/N - 3278 P3 S/N - 51 > > > > > > > > > > > > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Is there an ETA for the P3 update utility for MAC users?

To answer everyone that responded
I'm using .031. A power off/on brings it back to life. It stops when I transmit, but only while I transmit. de K2GN - Larry - http://k2gn.com K3 S/N - 3278 P3 S/N - 51 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Well, it's still doing the freeze.
I have found it in the "freeze" state 4 times while I'm not operating, This remains a big mystery. I've also had it freeze up while Txing 3 times. Obviously RF. Conditions: P3 on left side of K3, powered off the K3. Using supplied cables. FW - 00.32 K3 FW - 04.05 My plan of attack is: 1. power P3 from external supply. 2. put ferrites on the K3/P3 cables. All the other cables already have them. 3. If the condition is still there, move P3 to right of K3. 4. If the condition is still there, PUNT!!! Hi Larry. My comments in-line, below:
Larry, K2GN wrote: > Well, it's still doing the freeze. > I have found it in the "freeze" state 4 times while I'm not operating, > This remains a big mystery. Indeed. If it is locking up while you are not operating (i.e. transmitting) then that rules out an RF-induced problem. Has the PC been connected/on, or has it locked up without the PC connected? > I've also had it freeze up while Txing 3 times. Obviously RF. Maybe. Since you stated above that it has happened when not TX, maybe not an RFI issue. Maybe coincidence. > Conditions: > P3 on left side of K3, powered off the K3. > Using supplied cables. > FW - 00.32 K3 FW - 04.05 I am running the same setup here, except I updated to beta P3 FW 0.33 yesterday. I have never had a lockup. > My plan of attack is: > 1. power P3 from external supply. A good next step, in case you have an intermittent problem with the DC out system on the K3. > 2. put ferrites on the K3/P3 cables. All the other cables already have them. If it happens without TXing, I don't see how this may help, but who can say? > 3. If the condition is still there, move P3 to right of K3. This sounds like voodoo to me 8-) 4. If the condition is still there, PUNT!!! (Any ideas??) You may possibly have a problem on the main board of the P3. Perhaps there is a problem with the DC-DC converters, and either your 5V or 3.3v is dropping out, causing the MPU to lock-up. I would suggest running the P3 completely disconnected from anything but DC power. Just let it idle, with baseline noise being displayed. If it happens again, you can be pretty sure the fault is internal to the P3. I suspect a Pin 1 Problem at one of the RS232 connectors involved (there are four -- computer, P3, P3, and K3). 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
