P3 time/date stamp?

Chuck Guenther
I'm enjoying my P3 very much.  One of my favorite features is the
screen freeze and capture capability that allow me to preserve
some of my favorite operating moments.  I often e-mail captured P3
images to friends, to show them what their signals looked like at
my end of the QSO.

One thing that would enhance this would be a way to display time
and date at least on the frozen P3 display.  I take care of this manually
by putting callsign, date, and time information in the .jpg filename in
Windows "My Pictures" folder.

Is this something that is planned for the future?

Re: P3 time/date stamp?

Chester Alderman
Just capture the image in the clipboard, then load it into Windows Paint (or
other image editor), and add what ever info you want on the P3 image.

Some image file formats have room for auxiliary textual attributes that might be used for this. If you view the folder containing the file in the Windows Explorer, try right clicking the image file name and see if there is an image properties dialog available that has date, time, remarks and the like. I'm away from a computer at the moment or I could be more sure of how to describe this. It may be better to save these files in .png format than .jpg as png is a lossless compression format.

Re: P3 time/date stamp?

Some image file formats include provision for storing metadata in IPTC
file headers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPTC_Information_Interchange_Model

Some formats that support that are Exif/JPEG and TIFF.  Unfortunately
the common formats that support lossless compression, PNG and GIF, do
not.  Lossless compression is desirable for graphical data like P3
screen shots.
