P3SVGA data RTTY FSK D

Tested today not a good result , poor to unreadable print rec by other
stations and print on k3 was good whereas pring on svga screen was bad
for RX. I even reversed FSK pol in config, but it had been correct. the
other post regarding missing text was what I saw. I have not had one
successful qso on cw or rtty(FSK D) with P3SVGA data and keyboard.

Return to terminal ( thanks for that option time delay on latest K3
Utility too) returned good print both ways.

Another thing too is that having P3VGA data on retards the terminal
display with most characters dropped.

Watch both the k3 and terminal displays and you will see this. Turn
P3SVGA data off and then you see terminal pick up every character shown
on the K3 screen.

So having P3SVGA data on at the moment in RTTY will mess you up using
ether terminal or svga for RTTY qso's
At least in FSK D .

Adrian, are you saying you are running the K3 Utility data display in parallel with the SVGA data display at the same time? If so, that is what is causing your problem.

They can not both run at the same time as they will compete for data from the K3, resulting in dropped characters. Run the SVGA Data mode in stand alone mode and you should see a significant improvement.

Ok now I have done as Eric said & I now have made a few qso's with the
P3SVGA data & keyboard. More practice will help. I will comment further
later.

Hi Toby, I'm not much into psk31 etc these days. I tried it out yrs ago and
got bored fast.

For RTTY the CWT twin tune bar should carry even bar weight each side to
coincide with best copy.

However the P3 green line and shade area does not match up well with the
twin dropper signal when this happens.

It's sort of get the green line to the right of the right dropper to get
into the ballpark.

It would be nice to get a P3 visual marker in RTTY that could be lined up
better.

I found a copy of 4.48 & installed, I have most of the old firmware versions
on my pc saved.

4.50 came out next with the agc deal and bad decode and so on.

Hi Adrian, I wnet back to 4.47 Firmware in the K3 and find decoding on the
P3 is improved.

CW operation with the P3 is perfect and no issue.

On PSK I have made contacts but it seems my TX freq is slightly off from my
RX freq. I have tried the Reference Freq. calibration and can make changes
to center the received signal. I have the SPAN set to 5KHZ for PSK and find
that allows me to see all the signals better. I wonder if you have had any
experience with PSK?

I have not tried RTTY yet.

I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours on the TARA Grid Dip contest Saturday. I choose to work RTTY with the P3SVGA and FSK D. What a hoot! Everything worked as it should. Each new contact went better than the previous one. I had quickly put in a couple of text messages for the contest and they proved to be adequate.

I have divided the 50 Text message capability into 4 groups CW (12) PSK31(12) RTTY (12) and an auxillary group of 12. They are accessed as F1 thru F12 (CW), <SHIFT> F1 thru <SHIFT> F12 (PSK31), <ALT> F1 thru <ALT> F12 (RTTY), and the aux group, <CTRL> F1 thru <CTRL> F12. Each function key carries basically the same message, just "personalized" for the particular mode, so other than remembering the correct pre-key, F! is always "CQ". etc. For the contest I used the aux group, <ALT> Function Keyes personalized for the Grid Dip.

To make a long story short, this scheme has worked well for me on CW and RTTY. I must admit tuning PSK31 has been a bit more of a trial but I have made a few contacts. Clicking on the browser is a lot easier. :-))

That's great Jim, I have not set up macro's etc yet, however with Eric's
advice re not running K3Util at the same time, I feel I can progress
further.
Will be on the band (20m) today as have a day off (Monday here now) Hope to
work some K3's out there and maybe a P3SVGA data setup.

I use vox and sometimes the keyboard RTTY send print report from rxer was
not so good. Did you use vox (keyboard send setup) Jim?

Will be on RTTY around 14086 or thereabouts later.

Jim,

I like your scheme for assigning macros. I think I'll go back and set them up like that.

Something I've learned over the last year or so on PSK is if you use a fairly narrow filter (400 or less) you can often let the "Spot" function zero in signals that are of decent strength.

Now and then I get a little glitch situation where keyboard cntrl does
not seem to function and the c is sent instead when looking to clear
tx/rx fields etc. Anyone else getting that? On 14084.36 now. RTTY
