PAR ENDFEDZ antennas

dlrwild1
Has anyone used the Par ENDFEDZ dipole antennas for QRP in the field or at
home for fixed operation? They seem to have very good reviews on Eham.net. I
am interested in their 30 meter and 20 meter monoband dipoles to use at home
and in the field with my K1-4 and maybe my future KX-3. Thanks.

Re: PAR ENDFEDZ antennas

Carey Magee (K2RNY)

Hi Bob:

I started with the Par 17M and 30M endfed antenna as my regular antennas for the shack when operating on those bands.  Awesome performance and they are at a max 30-40' up.  I only had to trim the 30M a little to tune it.  These are strung horizontally.

As a result I got the 10-20-40 multiband antenna for my qrp work.  Again, awesome performance just just a little tweaking to get it where I wanted it.  This one I use as a sloper.  Nice quality and craftsmanship.

Not sure as I would call them a dipole because they are coax fed from the end that has the matching unit.

Bottom line.  One happy DX'er and QRP'er here.

I've used them for >6 years and they work very well.  They're end-fed (hence the name ENDFEDZ) half wave dipoles so they can be oriented either vertically or horizontally.  I use mine exclusively for QRP in the field so I opted for the multi-band version (only available for QRP power).  You can configure the multiband version to cover both 20 and 30 instead of 20 and 40, which would cover both the bands you mentioned.

The original manufacturer was Dale W4OP (a K3 owner) but he recently sold the EndFedz product line to another ham whose call I forget.

I have used the PAR EFHW antennas for a couple of years now in my portable QRP work and they are very effective antennas.

Currently using the PAR 40/20/10M version but also have the 20/40M version that I have used extensively as well.

On one occasion in the field I had a 100ft wire up in a tree, the PAR 20/40 and a BuddiPole all set up and made comparative tests on the same signals.

All were just about equal on both bands in terms of signal strengths....all antennas were oriented more or less in the same directions.

The PAR EFHW antenna makes for the easiest and quickest installation of the above mentioned at least in my applications.

You don't actually have to cut the wire when tuning the antenna for lowest SWR...I just doubled it back on itself and used tie wraps.

I usually tape the matching box down to my operating table and run the wire up a tree limb using my wrist rocket.

As I said, very easy installation procedure.

The PAR EFHW antennas work very well for portable ops.

Hello Bob,

I have used the 20 and 40 meter mono band antenna's, both work great.
There's nothing magical about these antennas but I feel that there is no
easier/quicker way to get on-air with a good signal then with an end fed
antenna like the ones from PAR electronics.
Some of my friends have borrowed my antennas to use them during holiday
operations. All of them were so enthusiastic that most of them have bought
similar antennas.

PAR electronics don't make them anymore. Dale has sold the end fedz part of
the company to LNR Precision: http://www.lnrprecision.com/

There are also two Dutch amateurs who make these antenna:
http://www.hyendfedantenna.nl/joomla/
These antennas can handle a bit more power but I guess that's not a big deal
for QRP operations ;-)
