Hi All,
one of my friend have given several days ago the duty of setting his K3 with N1MM and MMTTY. Surely it's a good start for me with this radio, but as at moment I'm not an owner of such a cake, I need your help. Purpose: Using K3 with a single True Serial cable to manage FSK, CW and triggering DVK Voice message of K3. This radio has been purchased with its internal DVR and I found the G4IFB posting useful to trigger DVR memories (http://www.g4ifb.com/html/elecraft_k2_k3.html#TrigerDVR). I need to know if there is a way to go out in TRUE FSK using the CAT cable Computer-K3. I read that CW should be possible, even if CW will not be brillant for the delays of WinXP multitasking. Thank you Sante ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Thank you Joe,
I suspected this.. The reason of the last message, is that we are not able to set a fresh bought Micro Keyer 2 since a week, so we thought to "trash away" it and reverting back to simple cables set. Any of you has the combo K3 + Micro Keyer 2 and wish to help us? CW, MMTTY and MMVARY with N1MM at last had been set. Manual is based on an old version of N1MM and MMTTY , so the several pictures shown on manual are useless to set the program. We lost into AUDIO label in Config menu. We are not able to route VOICE to N1MM with the purpose of recording messages and seeing them played back to radio. My friend spent also money for cables!!! No help from Microham support till now. Sante, Follow the microKEYER II User Manual carefully when setting up the MK II/K3 audio. There are even special instructions for setting up "digital" audio for the K3. I wrote the manual and use those exact instructions for configuring my own station - they work if followed exactly. I am not going to duplicate chapters of the User Manual here. As far as the example configuration for N1MM Logger - the N1MM developers made a small change to support SO2R with two radios that contained built in sound cards (e.g. IC-7600). Those changes *do not matter* with the K3 and MK II. If the second Radio boxes and "radio CODEC' boxes are left unchecked, there is no difference between the most recent N1MM Logger Audio tab and that shown in the microHAM example documentation. I am not going to rewrite documents for eight different products every time a software writer makes a minor screen change. It is total waste of time when the change does not apply to the interface. 73, ... Sante,
If you are using N1MM/MMTTY or any other standard digital mode application for FSK you MUST build an interface (or purchase one) that connects to pins 1 and 5 on the K3 ACCY port. FSK can not be keyed via the RS232 port. For casual operating you CAN use the K3 Utility terminal tab and send CW/PSK and FSK over the serial port as ASCII but it is not keying the FSK lines when you do this. 73 Greg AB7R On Wed, Nov 16, 2011 at 3:36 AM, Sante - IK0HBN <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi All, > one of my friend have given several days ago the duty of setting his > K3 with N1MM and MMTTY. Hi again Joe!
Sorry it's not my purpose starting a flame on Microham here, but I think that it should be interest of the seller, putting at his best his knowledge to make his stuff as useable as possible. We have spent 3 full days to have it running, without result. If you did notice, my first post was about of making everything running with a serial cable, as we mentally gave up of seeing the stuff really running. We followed manual at our best we could, BUT, if the things there are not fully described, there are hundreds of possibilities you have to set, that it's easier winning lottery with a single shot!! At moment we have the stuff running on SSB (direct TXing and Record/play msg from N1MM) ONLY if we put MICROHAM codec for all the computer, so whatsoever thing you do which generate a sound, it finished into the radio. BTW it was funny listening the opening of WinXP launched for half a world...hi Hope things do not have to run such a way and that till now we still miss something, otherway it should be crazy having a PC for just one application Ciao for now Sante At 16.51 16/11/2011, Joe Subich, W4TV wrote: >Sante, > >Follow the microKEYER II User Manual carefully when setting up >the MK II/K3 audio. BTW it was funny listening the opening of > WinXP launched for half a world...hi You have discovered an incompatibility between the RealTek Windows drivers and N1MM Logger than microHAM CAN NOT solve. The developer of N1MM insists on using the "Mixer ID" to point to the sound card and not the Wave In and Wave Out ID. With most sound cards and XP the Mixer ID and the Wave Out ID are the same ... however with a Realtek sound card installed in the computer *THEY ARE DIFFERENT*! N1MM uses the WRONG sound card - a sound card other than what is selected in the N1MM Audio tab. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING MICROHAM CAN FIX. The problem exists when using *any* secondary sound card with a RealTek sound system as the primary device on a Windows XP system. N1MM Logger is simply *not* operating as documented in its own documentation! Until the N1MM Logger developer fixes his audio interface (this issue has existed for at least three years) there are two ways around the problem: disable the Realtek sound card - replace it with a different primary sound card - or - disable *ALL* "Windows sounds" (Set "Control Panel" -> Sounds "Sound Scheme" to "No Sounds" (or "none") and uncheck "Play Widows Startup Sound") 73, ... Hi, Sante - I have FSK running with N1MM/MMTTY/MK2R+ and both a K3 and a TS-850. I ran into similar confusion on the differences between what is in the MK2R+ manual and what I would see on the screen. I found PA1M's documentation at here and here to be really helpful.
I have had this running for over a year now - and even survived moving the setup from Windows XP to Windows 7! I used PA1M's info to fight through the last remaining hurdles - unfortunately, I don't remember what those last few problems/solutions were, but PA1M's info should get you through. 73, John K3TN |
