I'm trying to set up my K3 to be keyed by PTT from my laptop for voice contests to transmit the various canned messages under the N1MM F keys. I also want to be able to key with vox when I need to give an exchange by voice, such as when it includes a serial number that changes with each QSO. In the menu, I only see PTT or VOX, nothing to indicate both can work at the same time. Any ideas? Bob,
The easy way to do it: Connect audio line-output from N1MM to the line-in (mono) of the K3 and set the VOX to on. Set in the menu mic+lin to ON. This will allow the pc and your mic to trigger the vox of the K3. If you still want to ptt the K3 from N1mm, which is better, then this ptt can be done through the serial cable. I can point you there, but you can find this in the N1MM config set-up. The K3 setting for this is in the K3 config under the ptt-key item. You can also route the your mic through the soundcard, which many people do. I prefer what I've written above because I often use the K3 without my computer. 73 Arie PA3A Op 6-2-2012 1:30, [hidden email] schreef: > > I'm trying to set up my K3 to be keyed by PTT from my laptop for voice contests > > to transmit the various canned messages under the N1MM F keys. Just try it. I think the PTT is always on and the toggle just turns VOX on and off so you either have PTT and VOX or just PTT.

Remember that your mic is live when N1MM is transmitting so you need to

Well, I did some experimenting this morning. On RTTY I can use PTT to key the rig and it works in a snappier way than using vox for afsk rtty. On voice, though, I key the rig with ptt from my laptop but no audio. I tried setting the menu entry to mic+line but it tells me NOT APPL. Not sure what to make of that. Anyone else tried this? Not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but MAIN:MIC+LIN is only applicable if MAIN:MIC is "FP.<blah>" or "rP.<blah>" - not if it's "LInE In". 73, ~iain / N6ML > ----- Original Message ----- > > > From: "Fred Cady" <[hidden email]> > To: "Arie Kleingeld PA3A" <[hidden email]>, [hidden email] > Sent: Monday, February 6, 2012 6:58:46 AM > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] PTT plus VOX -- possible? > > Remember that your mic is live when N1MM is transmitting so you need to > be careful what you say :-) > > Cheers and 73, > Fred KE7X > > Fred Cady > "The Elecraft K3: Design, Configuration, and Operation" > www.ke7x.com > fcady at ieee dot org >> -----Original Message----- >> From: [hidden email] [mailto:elecraft- >> [hidden email]] On Behalf Of Arie Kleingeld PA3A >> Sent: Monday, February 06, 2012 6:07 AM >> To: [hidden email] >> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] PTT plus VOX -- possible? >> >> Bob, >> >> The easy way to do it: >> Connect audio line-output from N1MM to the line-in (mono) of the K3 > and >> set the VOX to on. Hi Iain I finally got it working, but I went through so many permutations that I'm not sure where I'm at right now. I'm letting it sit overnight and will check it again tomorrow. If it still works right, I'll writer down all the settings for my notebook. The idea is to have N1 MM do most of the canned messages-CQ, TU etc. But I will have to voice the exchange as it is RST plus serial number and I don't want to mess with number files to express a serial number. It's easier just to speak that one. Hope to see you in the contest. 73, Bob N6WG ----- Original Message ----- From: "iain macdonnell - N6ML" <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Cc: "Fred Cady" <[hidden email]>, [hidden email] Sent: Tuesday, February 7, 2012 12:04:09 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] PTT plus VOX -- possible?
