My K2 #6425 is now up and running, and I need good, light/small portable iambic paddles for the upcoming summer trips. Are there any good recommendations?
Candidates I have been looking at include: - Palm Mini Paddles (http://www.morsex.com/palm) - Paddlette PK1 (http://www.paddlette.com/pkproduct.htm) - Paddlette BP (http://www.paddlette.com/bpproduct.htm) Does anyone have experience, or even comparison on these or others that would be suitable for portable operation? My preference for "feel" is that the I prefer "harder/metallic" touch when making contact over "softer" touch, that I have found with some paddles. 73 - Kristinn, TF3KX |

Kristinn,
Something like this might be a possibility. The guy who built them, says they work very well. They are made out of paper clips. You could build several, if one was lost or whatever, a spare would always be at hand. http://home.comcast.net/~fairbank56/clipper.jpg Best, DW Holtman WB7SSN ----- Original Message ----- From: "TF3KX" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Friday, April 25, 2008 3:58 AM Subject: [Elecraft] Portable CW paddles for K2? > > My K2 #6425 is now up and running, and I need good, light/small portable > iambic paddles for the upcoming summer trips. I like the Paddlette paddles for portable use with the K2. At home, I use the Elecraft HexKey and a set of Brown Brothers BTL-A paddles. The Paddlettes are similar in design to the Brown Brothers and have a solid feel to them. The newer Paddlettes have stiffer arms than the old ones which is a significant improvement. There is no vertical movement of the arms which helps to keep the "solid" feel. I used the Palm only once and it felt a touch spongy to me, but it may have been the way that that particular unit was adjusted. Surprisingly, the K9LU Bulldog paddles feel pretty good too. I did not like the Whiterook or MFJ portable paddles. I also have the Black Widow and Scorpion paddles and use them on occasion, but prefer the others.

Kristinn:
I bought one of these recently, and have really been enjoying it: http://www.americanmorse.com/portapaddle.htm You can get it with or without the base. I bought the base, and was glad I did, but you can mount the paddles on just about anything with the two mounting holes. I had to do just a slight amount of "adjusting" with some fine-grit sandpaper and a drill bit, but I'm very pleased with the solid feel, and the size is just right for me, with no real compromises in performance. I've been using it both portable and at home with my K2, and am very pleased with it. For what it's worth, I had to wait about 14 days for delivery. You may want to ask about shipping/delivery times to your QTH. I would definitely buy this one again. American Morse is also the recommended supplier for a very nice CNC enclosure for the Small Wonder Rockmite QRP transceiver. I also ordered one of these, and am very pleased with it. 73, Dave K7DAA http://www.k7daa.com On Apr 25, 2008, at 2:58 AM, TF3KX wrote: > > My K2 #6425 is now up and running, and I need good, light/small > portable > iambic paddles for the upcoming summer trips. The Palm Mini paddle is a very well thought out and nicely engineered
package; one of the best features is how the mechanism is completely protected by the case when not in use. The ability to mount it in various ways and positions is a nice plus. It's very adjustable and amenable to a light or heavy touch. The overall feel is a little "soft" - the arms are made of something like PC board material and the paddles themselves have a soft surface, so there is some give in the motion after the contacts close. For me, the benefits of the packaging outweigh the less-than-perfect touch - especially for backpacking. 73 de chris K6DBG _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
