Powersonic 2.9 Ah batteries for the K2

Robert Cochrane
A UK supplier of PS 1229 batteries (as supplied for the K2) has said
that PS is no longer supplying them and that the nearest equivalent
is the PS 1221, a 2.1Ah battery in the same case size.

Other UK alternatives in the same case size also appear to be 2.1 or 2.2 Ah.

Is there a problem with obtaining 2.9 Ah reliably within this small envelope?

I wonder if the problem could be the battery never achieved 2.9 Ah and
was therefore withdrawn? I haven't seen Yuasa or similar batteries of
that size/capacity, which is rather odd considering most other batteries
seem to be offering more capacity as the years go by. Has anyone
analysed the Power Sonic battery to measure the Amp hour rating?

According to the Power Sonic web site, the PS-1221 has a different
form factor than the PS-1229.  The only one which matches the 1229
case size (actually 1 mm wider) is the PS-1220, which is rated at 2.5
Ah.

The PS-1229 is still listed, by the way.

A Google search located the Universal UB1222 battery, which has the
same case size and is rated at 2.2 Ah.
