I just got the Bencher paddles as a gift and I'm trying it on the air. At first it was working and I wired it up right but there was no reading on the RF. Then I hit something by accident in the menu and can't figure out what it is. I'd tried finding ERR TXF in the menu but maybe I am over looking something else. What is happening now is I get this message ERR TXF. It sends a tone one time and then goes into this ERR TXF. Nothing happens after that. The 1/4 inch plug is plugged into the slot that says paddle on the back of the radio. The second problem once the first one is solved is how do I get it to show the wattage going out. No matter how how high I increased the power, I show no RF reading on the meter.

This question seems to be the one asked more than any other on this
reflector. See the manual page 46 for "Transmit Crystal Filter Selection (per-mode)" ERR TXF indicates that you do not have the correct transmit filter configured. The TX filter for CW must be the 2.7 or 2.8 kHz filter (SSB too). You can use the menu to set the transmit filter for each mode, or use the K3 Utility to do it for you. The transmit filter must be set for each mode - to do it in the menu, go to CONFIG: FLTX - tap the mode switch to check the filter for each mode - if it is not correct, use the VFO A knob to change it. 73, Don W3FPR -.-. --.-N3TU -.-. --.- wrote: > I just got the Bencher paddles as a gift and I'm trying it on the air. Thanks for the information.
I just got it up and running now and right now I am trying to figure out the vox in CW. I have it on but it could be that I am in the SSB. I have to find the CW/VOX function. This is all new to me. |

Look at the right side of the LCD display to see what mode you are in.
Yes, VOX is remembered by mode. Switch to the mode you wish (I assume CW) and hold the VOX button - it is a toggle, same action to turn it off. The LCD has an indicator for VOX on or off. See the diagram of the LCD display in the manual to locate the VOX icon. You may want to go through the manual identifying all those items on the display and front panel - that is often an informative exercise. The other useful exercise is to read the list of menu items to see what functions/features of the radio can be changed in the menu. 73, Don W3FPR -.-. --.-N3TU -.-. --.- wrote: > Thanks for the information. > > I just got it up and running now and right now I am trying to figure out the > vox in CW. Hi All,
I just noticed something that tends to happen on my K3. I had problems running MT63. The finally found the problem and it was that the radio had changed from DATA A digital mode to AFSK A mode. Changing it back to DATA A fixed the problem. When I turned the radio off, waited 10 seconds, and then turned the radio back on the radio was still set to DATA A. However, I checked the mode this morning and it was back to AFSK A again. The frequency had not been changed. I don't know if it is me or the firmware. (I am betting on the former) Firmware is 2.78 73, Steve, W2MY ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Steve,
I've noticed that data mode seems to always be AFSK A after updating firmware regardless of what it was set to before the update, but I've not had it spontaneously change just by turning the rig off as you describe. (That said, I *have* had cases where the band map has changed without me explicitly changing it, but I've never been able to intentionally reproduce it. The usual change is 40m gets mapped out or 60m gets mapped in.) Are you turning the rig off with the power button on the front panel, or by shutting off your power supply while the rig is on? Shutting off your power supply while the rig is turned on can result in some settings not being saved. 73 -- Joe KB8AP On Mar 9, 2009, at 4:23 PM, list1 wrote: > Hi All, > I just noticed something that tends to happen on my K3. Joe,
I have done many firmware upgrades and my data mode has stayed the same as it was previously set. I have mine currently set to PSK D, so there is not an exact comparison with your experience, but I really don't think it is the firmware upgrade causing it. 73, Don W3FPR Joe Planisky wrote: > Hi Steve, > > I've noticed that data mode seems to always be AFSK A after updating > firmware regardless of what it was set to before the update, but I've > not had it spontaneously change just by turning the rig off as you > describe. Hi Don,
I just went back and tried several firmware changes and the K3 has made a liar out of me. It stayed in DATA A through the changes. But that makes it all the more worrisome. I never use AFSK A, but have definitely found the rig in that mode after firmware updates. 73 -- Joe KB8AP On Mar 9, 2009, at 5:06 PM, Don Wilhelm wrote: > Joe, > > I have done many firmware upgrades and my data mode has stayed the > same as it was previously set. > I have mine currently set to PSK D, so there is not an exact > comparison with your experience, but I really don't think it is the > firmware upgrade causing it. > > 73, > Don W3FPR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Well, I must partially recant my recantation. After posting that
email, I went to another band and noticed the data mode was AFSK-A. In fact, on every band EXCEPT the one I was on when I did the firmware down/upgrades (20m), the data mode was AFSK-A. I tried shuffling the firmware again, but could not reproduce. All bands stayed on DATA-A. 73 -- Joe KB8AP On Mar 9, 2009, at 9:15 PM, Joe Planisky wrote: > Hi Don, > > I just went back and tried several firmware changes and the K3 has > made a liar out of me. Hi All,
OK, I'm going to assume it was a false alarm. Today when I turned on the rig it was still set to DATA A for the 80 meter band, so all is well. It does appear to be band specific as the bands I have not done digital on are still set to AFSK A, which appears to be the default. So I think we can put this one to rest. However, I will still take the time to make sure that I am in DATA A mode before transmitting MT63.
