Just did the new firmware dowload, and trying
to
set up the new Transmit Noise Gate.
Problem is:
Directions say got to CONFIG:TX GAIN and
tap
1. I only show CONFIG:TXGN LP, with a current
setting
of 18. No response when tapping
1.
What do I do now?
Thanks and 73

Bob,
Go back and try again. I think you are looking at the wrong menu item; you are seeing CONFIG TXGN HP or LP, and the number; go counterclockwise from there (B knob) 2 steps, to CONFIG TX GATE; it will show on or off, and the level of it... 73 and Good Luck de Dave, W5SV Bob Tellefsen wrote:

Hmmm
Don't have TX GAIN, just CONFIG:TXGN LP. Checked CONFIG with TECH MD ON and OFF. Also checked MENU. Directions say "To use the noise gate, locate CONFIG:TX GAIN, tap '1' to turn it ON" Just loaded the latest firmware from E'craft site and no TX GAIN or TX GATE there. Bob,
Check your firmware level. It sounds like you do not have the latest beta loaded. If it is not 2.45 MCU and 1.92 DSP, then you do not have the noise gate installed. You must follow the steps to download the beta version, because this has only been released at a beta. The instructions for downloading beta firmware can be found at http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_software.htm. 73, Don W3FPR Bob Tellefsen wrote: > Hmmm > Don't have TX GAIN, just CONFIG:TXGN LP. > Checked CONFIG with TECH MD ON and OFF. > Also checked MENU. > Directions say "To use the noise gate, locate CONFIG:TX GAIN, tap '1' > to turn it ON" > > Just loaded the latest firmware from E'craft site and no TX GAIN or TX > GATE there. > > Sorry about the font shift here. > > Help! > > 73, Bob N6WG > > Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hello Bob!
Be sure you've downloaded the latest BETA firmware. Directions for this are on the website. After downloading, be sure you see the correct firmware revs in CONFIG:FW REVS Once you have confirmed the correct firmware is loaded, scroll to CONFIG: TX GATE and follow the directions in the release notes. TX GAIN is a typo. 73, Lyle KK7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Hi Dave and Vic and Brett and Toby
Finally figured out the problem.
I had the downloaded zip file in C:\K3 Utility\beta
2r45
but when I unzipped it, it created a new
subfile,
C:\K3 Utility\beta 2r45\k3fw2r45.zip. I
finally copied
the contents of this file back into C:\K3
Utility\beta 2r45
and things started to work.
Whew! At least I was able to muddle
through. That's
what I get for downoading
infrequently.
I appreciate everyone's input. We finally got
it together.
Thanks and 73

I just finished building my new K3 (all except the 100W amp that awaits final checkout). The rig seems to power up OK, but returns error messages when I do the Synthesizer Calibration. It returns Err VCO with E 00374 data and/or ERR VC4 with E 00039 data. I checked the seating of the oscillator, the KREF3 and KSYN3 modules and the three TMP cables, but the results are the same. What is going on and what can I do? Thank you. 73, Phil Shepard NS7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Check that a long lead from the KSYN3 or KREF3 modules aren't shorted against the bare metal they mount to. That was my problem. One cap had a lead that was too long and was touching. I got
several replies to my query. I have tried reloading the latest released
firmware, checking the REF and SYN PCBs for shorting and reseating the
oscillator in its socket. All with no improvement. The PLL1 voltage
goes above 7 volts in the upper end of 40 meters, and the relays switch several
times as I tune across 40 meters. The only suggestion I haven't tried is
spreading the turns on the toroid. Is that my only option at this
point? Thank you.

Phil,
Your best option at this point is to send an email to [hidden email]. I would only spread the toroid turns as a last resort and only after discussing it with K3support. 73, Don W3FPR Phil and Christina wrote: > I got several replies to my query. Hi Phil, This note is not only for you but any others experiencing K3 problems. Always send your queries to k3support@elecraft.com first. You stand a much better chance of receiving accurate information from Elecraft than any other source. Gary AB7MY is the main K3 support guy, he is normally very prompt in responding and he is very, very good at K3 support. I would never modify my own K3 based only on what I read on this list. Some advice here is good and some is not. You run the risk of making your problem worse if you happen to follow bad advice. 73, Bill W4ZV |
