Hi,
Icom has had that for a long time even for their low end rigs such as the IC-718. This has been suggested here a while ago for Elecraft to consider. As far as I know the idea was rejected. I liked it on my Icom rigs, but some people truly hate it. Nowadays many people, including myself, use panadapters that allow point and click QSY. That can bring you straight across a band with a couple of mouse clicks. I'd like that feature, too. For those who don't like it, just add a
menu item to enable it. Scott K9MA On 1/2/2018 10:50, Chuck Chandler wrote: > Whooo-hooo. Sign me up. I actually thought all radios had this feature. When I first got my KX2, i kept turning the knob faster and faster looking to see if it would kick in, and was kind of disappointed when it didn’t. So I would like to see it added to the KX2 and KX3.

About the only thing I like about using my Drake R4C over my K3S is that I can cover a lot of band with a couple of twists of the Drake's tuning knob, at 25KHz per rotation. However, it's tough to clarify SSB at that rate, though it's actually not too fast for CW for me.
I'd love to see the K3S have a progressive tuning rate, with adjustable parameters - acceleration and max rate. Acceleration would set how fast the progressive tuning rate advances; max rate would set the absolute max tuning rate. If it ends up working anything like that 'feature' on the Yaesu FT-847,
it will certainly not please me - and I will want a way to turn it off. I find nothing wrong with the tuning rate selection on the K3 or KX3/KX2 using the RATE button(s). In addition, you can set the VFO OFS so that the VFO B knob can be used for rapid QSY. Those provide me with controlled QSY operations instead of "somewhere WAAY up (or down) the band" that I have experienced with other radios having that feature. 73, Don W3FPR >> On Jan 2, 2018, at 1:51 PM, K9MA <[hidden email]> wrote: >> >> I'd like that feature, too. Set the parameters and use the rate button, push go fast, push go slow,
you an set how fast or slow you wish to go. > About the only thing I like about using my Drake R4C over my K3S is that I can cover a lot of band with a couple of twists of the Drake's tuning knob, at 25KHz per rotation. I like the tuning rates on my K3S just as it is. No changes
requested. And I have radios with variable tuning rates. They are an annoyance in my usage. 73 Bob, K4TAX On 1/2/2018 6:23 PM, Merv Schweigert via Elecraft wrote: > Set the parameters and use the rate button, push go fast, push go slow, > you an set how fast or slow you wish to go. > > >> About the only thing I like about using my Drake R4C over my K3S is >> that I can cover a lot of band with a couple of twists of the Drake's >> tuning knob, at 25KHz per rotation. I think it would be nice for a future firmware update to add a progressive tuning rate. I can imagine the simplest added root menu item: VFO PRG [Disable (or OFF)/Enable] (rather than complexifying the existing VFO CRS submenu). Adding more options would be possible for a VFO PRG menu item, e.g.: [OFF/x5/x10/x20] (where x=equals the currently set Fine or Coarse tuning rate for the current mode). A non-user-accessible sensing threshold would probably be acceptable. {One can imagine a VFO PTH; but such an item might tip the complex-o-meter needle past the ‘needlessly complex’ mark} ;)
More than 7 chars in the VFO B alphanumeric display would be helpful, although it’s too late to change that. This will have to wait for the introduction of the high-res colour raster displays of the KX4 and K4s. {I’m making this up} hi = 73 de KX2CW kn ~joan ;) Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, said Piglet. Shaka, when the walls fell, said Pooh. > On Jan 2, 2018, at 11:51, K9MA <[hidden email]> wrote: > > I'd like that feature, too. +3 (one for each K3)
Admittedly, I use the frequency entry on the front panel more than tuning. Plus, I often enter the frequency in my logger or tune with the UP/DOWN arrow keys. 73, Bill, K8TE Message: 14 Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2018 12:13:30 -0500 From: "Mal Speer" <[hidden email]> To: "'Chuck Chandler'" <[hidden email]>, <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Progressive Tuning Rate Message-ID: <006401d383ed$04e6f8d0$0eb4ea70$@rr.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" +1 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
