OK, maybe I am saying it wrong. Ran into a couple of guys on the air and they are pronouncing the name of Elecraft different from me. What do the experts say?
I am saying "El-eh-craft". The other guys were saying "El-craft"? I have three syllables in the name and they have two. I sort of thought of the name like "electronics + craft" so took two syllables from the "electronics" part. Sure it is silly question. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Simple.
The proper pronunciation has always been right on the Home Page of the Elecraft website: "How do you say Elecraft? Ele (as in "Elegant") + Craft." Phil, I think you have the right pronunciation.
I've always heard it pronounced with three syllables, as if it were formed from the concatenation of "ele" from "elegant" and "craft" from "craftsmanship". I've talked with the founders, and whenever I've heard them say "Elecraft", it's always with three syllables. I gave up and just refer to both the company and rig in a single easy to say "K3".

Still doesn't help us hicks who talk with strange accents. How about
posting a wav file on the company web site? We could listen to it on our epods and practice the correct pronunciation while taking the bus to work! Hey... epod - now there's an interesting product idea! The Queen's version of the pronunciation might be something like this:
Elecraft (eleˈcrɑːft). But then again... ;-) 73 Glenn ON4WIX ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul ZL3IN" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Thursday, November 26, 2009 8:50 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Pronunciation ?? > Still doesn't help us hicks who talk with strange accents. Now, now David...
El-e-craft of course but I'd pronounce the "a" as in "star", not as in "stack" (I'm British born) Now IMHO it's about time to end this thread and get back to DX! 73 Richard - HB9ANM <quote author="David Ferrington, M0XDF"> Who's Queen? :-) 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174
